In full transparency, I wanted to let you guys know that my chef, Darren, has been arrested.
Here’s what I know:
1. He was driving home to St. Louis
2. He was in Coffee County, TN and fell asleep at the wheel.
3. He ended up in a ditch and was able to crawl out.
4. By the time authorities arrived, they assessed the situation and realized Darren was driving under the influence.
5. After searching him and the vehicle, they found more drugs and enough to charge him with the intent to distribute.
6. I’ve spoken with his mother and there’s not much anyone can do.
7. His bond requires $14K cash or a bondsman, but that would require a property bond IN Coffee County. No one knows anyone that lives there.
8. The jail is going to allow him to call me at 6PM.
This is all the information I have. Yes, I’m upset. I’m more disappointed in him. Darren just turned 26 and he’s already done a 4 year sentence. He was rough around the edges, but I exposed him to a life many dream about.
He reached out to me about working for me when I was looking for a chef. He didn’t know I would hire ex cons. He didn’t have any food photos on his IG. When I asked him, he said give him a day. The next day, his work was on display. I know his heart. He’s a good kid. He never gave me any issues and accepted my correction like the student he was.
Obviously, this is hard for all of us. I’m not sure what the future holds. But, I’ve built this brand on transparency and when you don’t see him around, questions will flow.
Please. Keep him in prayer. The charges (all 5 of them) and his previous legal battles may not bode well for him. And as the boss, my heart now turns to the other 4 members of the traveling team to ensure their morale stays lifted.
