Daniel Murphy of the NY Mets makes an amazing behind the back toss out!

Great play, but the runner was safe! It wasn't that close. Plus, the "sad-sack, injury laden" Mets needed a little love, so the ump wanted to give the fans something to root about. By the way, usually so-called "bang-bang"* (ties) plays gives the decision to the runner. A lg standing MLB rule.

* plays occuring at first base.

Looks to me like they got him by half a step.

This is the problem with the Mets. They got people who will make the occassional spectacular play like so, but the same guys cannot execute the most simple, most fundamental plays needed to win games on a consistent basis. What that video is not showing you is that Murphy has fucked up at least one play like this per game

Right, one of many. Several of these guys would not be in the Majors, were it not for the host of injuries to the team. One might say these guys are "not ready for prime time..."lol.

In Murphy's defense, he is playing 1B, a place he has NEVER played before on any level. I think he belongs in the majors, but as a backup OF, not your starting cleanup hitter (which is where most 1b bat in the lineup). Mets have several guys playing out of position including poor Sheffield who they have playing left and right fields.

What Manuel needs to do is stop playing guys where they have no skills. We need to concentrate on what we HAVE, not what is missing. Play your guys where they're used to playing, then you fill in the blanks with minor leaguers if you have to. And for god's sake, stop waiting for Carlos Delgado. Bring up WHATEVER 1b slugger is in your minor league farm system and play his ass everyday. When Johnny Damon has more HRs than your ENTIRE starting lineup aand you only score 3 rums in 3 games against your archrival at home, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine what the problem is
