UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier told ESPN on Monday he does not need to face Jon Jones for a third time before retirement.

Cormier, who defeated Derrick Lewis on Saturday at UFC 230 to retain his heavyweight belt, has said he wants to end his MMA career by the time he is 40. He will be that age in March and hopes his final opponent will be WWE superstar Brock Lesnar.

"I don't need [the Jones fight] anymore," Cormier said on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show. "Sometimes you need things and sometimes you don't. ... I've come to terms with everything. Because he was gone so much, I had to remove myself from the situation so completely that it almost became not reality."

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones said he doesn't care to fight archrival Daniel Cormier a third time, saying, "I already have all the marbles when it comes to Daniel Cormier."

Cormier and Jones have one of the biggest rivalries in MMA history.

Jones defeated Cormier two previous times (one of which was changed to a no-contest), the first by unanimous decision at UFC 182 in 2015. Jones was later stripped of his belt after an arrest following a hit-and-run accident that injured a pregnant woman. Cormier replaced Jones and defeated Anhony Johnson for the interim belt.

Jones and Cormier were scheduled to fight at UFC 200 in July 2016, but Jones failed a prefight drug test and was pulled from the card. The two finally had a rematch at UFC 214 in July 2017. Jones landed a head kick in the third round and won by TKO, although the result was later ruled a no-contest after Jones tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid. Cormier was reinstated as light heavyweight champion and went on to defeat Volkan Oezdemir by second-round TKO in January.

Similarly, Jones told Helwani last month he does not want to fight Cormier again.

"I already have all the marbles when it comes to Daniel Cormier," Jones said. "I've beaten him twice. This game has never been personal. What is personal to me is chasing greatness, not individuals. So in the case of myself and Daniel Cormier, he needs to fight myself one more time if he ever wants to be considered one of the all-time greats. I don't need to fight him again to be considered one of the all-time greats. I have many more years to prove it."

Jones is set to headline UFC 232 against Alexander Gustafsson on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas. The bout is a rematch of what some consider the greatest fight ever, a 2013 matchup that saw Jones win by unanimous decision to retain his light heavyweight belt.

Cormier believes he is in the discussion for the best fighter ever. His only official professional loss was to Jones, who Cormier believes used banned substances to win. After years of feeling he would need to defeat Jones for his own legacy, Cormier appears over that notion and is happy to retire without completing the trilogy.

"Can I really trust that he's going to be back in the game?" Cormier asked. "History shows that there will probably be some sort of issue either before the Gustafsson fight or after the Gustafsson fight. We schedule a fight? There's definitely going to be an issue because there's always been an issue."

Everyone saw it, it's not about buying it. A loss is a loss is a loss. It doesn't have to be an official loss to be a loss.
It's no different than when Apollo Creed lost to Ivan Drago in Rocky 4 the fuckin cheater Ivan Drago cheated by being roided up and Apollo ended up losing his life over it.

As a kid I refused to see it because I knew it was Russian propaganda just like his later Rambo movies (I'm not including the first Rambo)

Peep this, this is real:

Dude this still does not matter Jon Jones still cheated and this loss didn't even count against Daniel Cormier as it shouldn't have.

What I see is a Cormier loss. Regular people look at UFC like a street fight with a few rules thrown in, nobody gives a fuck what you're on: did you win or lose? Nobody is going to drug test you on the street.

It's rules in the UFC though, if it wasn't rules then people would fight until death. Stop acting like this is not the case when it is. Either follow the UFC rules or don't be in.

I said that there are rules, duh. There is no more eye gouging anymore and other moves that are banned I understand that. My point is to the regular fan that drug shit doesn't matter, at the end of day who won? Who got their arse kicked? Who got their bloody pride hurt by being TKO'ed? Who got the submission?

Jon Jones won two times. case closed.

Fuck the regular fan they don't know shit anyway don't tell me about a fucking idiot fan.

He should do a 3rd fight but make it at HW, his only chance to beat Jones is at HW where he wouldn't be weakened from a weight cut

Cormier KNOWS hes on borrowed time and doesn't want anyone to take that from him, he was even handed on a silver platter his heavyweight title defense, more gifts from Daddy Dana. No way he should have fought Lewis and so soon, straight spoon fed him a stylistic mismatch if ever there was one.

He does NOT want to wake up from his dream so he will def not want to face Jones again. And to clarify, everyone calling Jones a cheater needs to understand the situation in full, the drug he took was a banned substance by USADA NOT the UFC, there were trace amounts and was in a tainted supplement he was taking which is why his suspension was cut short. Jones already beat him without any issues with USADA so why would he need to cheat to beat him again? Now if you said they fought Heavyweight and Jones juiced because of the weight difference that would something else. Jones is a grade A fuckup but that doesnt mean hes not the GOAT at MMA.

I don't wanna hear all the other excuses cause at the end of the day he shouldn't have taken anything to begin with that could be at risk of fucking up his rep.

An ass whoopin' is an ass whoopin is an ass whoopin.....
I agree. Lost all respect for DC on how he handled the Ls. I give a fuck about the crying. He put his all in it and got beat bad.

What I can't take is the shit talking after jones gets stripped. DC talk big shit about being champ like he took the belt from jones. :smh:Just bitch shit. If he is avoiding jones, nothing would make me happier than seeing Lesnar stun everyone and beat the shit out of DC.

Stipe held the strap for record time and DC just ignoring him. Don't want none with Jones. Yeah, I want Lesnar to beat the shit out of him(wish the odds of that happening were good but they low as fuck) and then DC can retire with his fake ass.

And speaking of Jones, after Gus it's time to cut the shit and go up to HW already. That will spook DC from sticking around.

Why did they strip him of the belt? Him being a coke user would not give him an advantage in a competitive fight.

I could see if he was busted using some performance enhancing drug!

Jon Jones should still be the light heavyweight champ!

Yeah, man, I can see if DC won it by a close decision but he didnt'; he straight up got molly-whopped/beat down/body tore asunder/bitch slapped into submission. There was no question who the real champion was.
