caught a link on Kiddlive.com (syndicated radio show site) and then a link on TJMS (syndicated radio show site) website about an interview she did to promote her book. It also mentioned her departure from CBS as well as her personal life issues.......

Syler's final day on the Early Show was on December 22nd, 2006, after announcing that she was about to undergo a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy , which was successful. She is now in the process of publishing a new book, "Good Enough Mother," which is due out in March.

They showed a videotape of her traumatic preparations for surgery, parts of the the surgery itself and the aftermath on her visit to Oprah fairly recently. She looked great with her new, smaller (cancer-free) breasts. (She said she doesn't even have to wear a bra now.) Her overall health appeared good as well. Classy, beautiful woman.

WHOA - chica had to have a both her breasts cut off. That's radical surgery. Most women never recover physcologically from that shit. They literally cut your breast open and remove all the breast tissues.

Good thing she has a husband who's like 15 years her senior and mature. Most young and dumb cats would have cut and run once their woman looses a portion of their sex appeal.

She didn't have to have the surgery she chose to, to reduce her chances of breast cancer because it runs in her family.

On the special on Oprah, her husband was there with her every step of the way. She is really a beautiful woman, I remember when she was an anchorwoman on channel 11 here in Dallas.

She elected to have the surgery BEFORE they even discovered cancer! Holy shit! That's crazy!

All she had to do was get mamogramed every 6 months if she was that worried about it running in the family or get blood sample drawn each month if she was that petro.

I think she had a scare before. Hopefully someone will come in with an accurate version of why she made the decision.

As I recall, from what I briefly saw on the show, it was a matter of percentages. She agonized over the decision but decided that she'd rather be 100% cancer free (for her kids) rather than sit around and wait with an extremely high percentage chance of going on to the next stage. Just get rid of the problem before it can do what it's gonna do (and save herself and her family the ongoing anxiety). The only real damage/downside of surgery would be to her vanity, which she was able to quickly overcome with new and improved boobs.

It was something along those lines. Smart woman. Played the odds (and put her ego on hold).

damn good find homie. I use to wake up early in the morning to see this vet and I never knew what happened to her and what the deal was. well she is good now I see.

I saw her on Oprah too .... Her doctor said that based on tests & family history that she was 50/50 on getting a life-threating version of breast cancer.... She mad a good move seeing that she is still fine & doesn't have to worry now.

I could have children that grow up to be murderers...best to cut my balls off now.

If your genes are medically-proven to be near-certain to create "murderers" then you damn well better (or some fool will do it for you)!!
