...NOT to pay another penny for adjustment", viz-a-viz his gigantic 60'X30" videoboard...charmingly called "Godzillatron", etc. The 'board almost covers the entire football field. Only the 'red zone' areas at each end of the field are free of the encumberment.
If former Oakland Raider 'premier' punter, Ray Guy were still playing--he's old school, he'd simply punt over it, and still get great 'hang time'--as would the Raider current punter, Shane Lechler. When Ray Guy punted the football it stayed skyward long enough to allow both teams to get down field before the ball hit the ground....or so it seemed (sometimes hyperbole holds me captive, and I get carried away). Nevertheless, Guy was instrumental to the success of those Oakland Raider teams. Its quite possible that the expression "hang time' was coined with Ray Guys' punts in mind.
Upon learning about the recent punting miscue (Titans v. Cowboys game) Guy commented that he'd probably have punted over the gigantic videoboard, with ease. Unfortunately, the Titan punter was a free agent/non-draftee (A. Trapasso), and not a great punter. He probably felt the best way to get head coach Fisher's attention was to direct his punt towards the 'board. This was Jones' feelings, and he didn't mince words to the contrary.
Jerry said that he consulted the NFL before building the new stadium, and received their approval following a review of the blueprints. While the NFL Competition Committee meets to determine if the $40M videoboard should be raised (it currently hangs about 20-feet from the ceilling), Jones strongly feels that such change will be at their expense. As he has said, "not another penny" will come from his coffers. The League office feels that it has to do something!
