Minn. Woman Found Dead in Car Trunk

Monday, October 29, 2007

08:22 PDT Savage, Minn. (AP) --

A woman who went to inquire about a nanny job advertised online was found dead in the trunk of her car, police said.

The body of Katherine Ann Olson, 24, was found in her car at a Burnsville park late Friday, Police Capt. David Muelken said. She was last seen by friends Thursday morning, when she went to meet someone in Savage about a nanny job. Investigators said she had found the ad on the Internet bulletin board Craigslist.org.

A 19-year-old Savage man who police believe placed the ad was being held pending charges, police said. Authorities did not release his name but said charges could be filed as soon as Sunday.

"We're confident we have the suspect in custody," Muelken said.

Muelken declined to say how Olson was killed or what the motive may have been.

A Savage resident found Olson's purse in a garbage can at Pacer Park. A police officer, thinking it may have been stolen, left a message at Olson's home saying police had the purse, Muelken said. Olson's roommate called back to say Olson hadn't been seen since 8 a.m. Thursday when she went to interview for the job.

Rechecking the garbage can, police found a bag containing a bloody towel, Muelken said. A State Patrol helicopter pilot noticed a car in the parking lot of Rudy Kraemer Nature Preserve in Burnsville, a few blocks from Pacer Park. Police identified the car as Olson's, and found her body in the trunk, he said.

Olson was a 2002 graduate of Park-Cottage Grove High School, where she was co-valedictorian, and from St. Olaf College in 2006.

Olson's family told the newspaper she had taken nanny jobs at least twice before, including a job in Turkey, after answering online ads.

Dammmm.. Glad I Dont Fuck With Craigslist.. Where Do U Find These Fucked Up Stories At Fem?

I was doing a search on Craig's List and found it.

I actually have sold alot of auto parts and computer parts off of Craig's list. People have come to my house to pick the items up and some I would meet in parking lots.

I think one just has to be very careful about where they meet and ask alot of questions beforehand. If something doesn't sound right, cancel and keep it moving.

I'D NEVER LET SOMEONE COME TO MY HOUSE. EVEN THE PARKING LOT SOUNDS IFFY..

I sold 2 car jacks. There was no way I was lifting those things. The guy that picked it up was a country white boy who seemed too eager to get the hell out of my garage.

The computer parts I sold while I was at my job so they just came to the building's parking lot.

I sold a fertility monitor to an Indian couple and they brought their kids. A black married couple came to my house and picked up a printer. They were very nice.

If someone has ill intent, I suppose it doesn't matter where I am. Evildoers will do evil anywhere.

I get more pissed when I drive somewhere to meet a potential buyer and he/she doesn't show up and doesn't call. I guess it really could be worse.

Hope you packing some heat just in case. Never know what type of crazies rolling up to your house might want to make a surprise visit one day.

Thanks for your concern Mello. That had never crossed my mind to be honest.

I guess from now on I'll stick with meeting folk in a public parking lot or something.

It was only those 2 incidents although I know all you need is one psycho, one time.

My job has security cameras and there are always people pulling up to the parking lot so that's not a big deal.

The other incidents were at mall parking lots. And every meeting has been during the day.

the thing about parking lots even in broad daylight is its way too easy for womeone to pull up in a van and pull you in and be gone with you. you know when i am walking down the street in NY i am cautious every time i pass a van and keep my distance. trucks too.

still Fem... since you posted this PLEASE be extra careful.. u know there are some wackos lurking on this board reading this

You're absolutely right. I do discuss what car I should be looking for but that doesn't mean someone couldn't have a homeboy parked right next to him in a van. And before I meet someone I let my best friend know.

I think I'm very careful and I've sold about 15 different items so far. I still have a couple of more things that I plan on selling through craig's list.

And thanks for your concern. You're right. I'll be even more cautious in the future.

as much as i hate the place, starbucks or somewhere similar is a very good safe place for this type of thing. you know a well lit public place with people around.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Even though I'm laughing at this I'm a bit mad because it's going to stay in my head, and I'll be cautious around all vans now....

Yeah it's definitely good to be knowledgeable but I know myself, every single van I see in a questionable place will now give off a caution/warning alert in my head..

yeah and cops and feds use them all the time too for stakeouts especially really old fucked up looking ones. fed ex and ups and utility trucks too.

Damn.... I just got my moms hooked on selling stuff on Craigslist. Shit.
She had exactly these concerns, now I'm gonna have to tell her about this and she's gonna freak out.
