crack dealers making $3.50 an hour?

I haven't watched the video but yes drug dealers really don't make that much money. Factor in jail time and prison time over the years and divide that up in the amount and it doesn't equal out to much money. I teach this to my students daily.
 
word up...and workers/pumpers don't go on vacation or have days off...so grinding 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and then dividing that by what you make after you pay your "boss" equals shit....then you also have to factor in bail, lawyer's fees, and cars, clothes, and clubbing to present the mirage of you making money....shit, after all that, there's nothing to stash in a bank account....most these dudes that are workers, and don't have direct access to the connect, are broke when you really break shit down....
 
Freakonimics is a great book. I would suggest picking it up.. the author makes some great observations in that book that most people just wouldn't recognize..even with using the same data sets...interesting work...

I agree. The book shows that salary pattern repeating in all the "glamour" industries: athletics, etc. Street drug dealers would rather be a janitor in a university, so they could move out of their mom's house.......
 
Freakonomics has a lot of bullshit in it, especially concerning abortion and drug dealing. Levitt's abortion theory is waaaaaaay off because he totally ignored the "crack" years from 1985-1995 in compiling his crime stats. And his idea that drug dealers earn less than a comparable minimum wage salary is based on one encounter with the accounting books of the Gangster Disciples in Chicago.

Man the guys on the corner don't make a whole lot of bread. There are too many chefs in the kitchen. Think about it. The guys who pump on the corner or out there house don't want to work for the man. They want to live like the movies.
 
I've had Freakanomics for about 2 years now. I was trying to explain this to some young cats a few months ago and they argued me down. You got dudes walking around bragging about balling out of control. But when you check they live with their Grandmoms! WTF? I wouldn't risk my life to live in a roach infested project building and the only thing I could look forward to at the end of the week was some new sneakers and "maybe" a 10k gold chain.

I basically think the reason that cats get into selling dope is because of the mechanics involved. When you get a job, you have "rules and regulations". When you sell dope you can sit on the corner all day, run down the street and fuck a hood rat. Smoke weed and just chill.....it sounds like the life.... :smh:
 
A cousin of mine was making 5 thousand a month dealing. He is now serving 11 years so I guess it would be 3.50 an hour. Go figure :hmm:

Look, I never sold drugs, but I know plenty that have, and do. Do not buy into the hype okay. This professor has probably never lived a day in Detroit, or any other city populated by low income people. His thesis is based upon the lives of others, and the media. So, he doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. I know cat's that have, and are hustling on them blocks making far more than this thread may suggest. Kingpins make the most money, of course. But If you really think that in your high infested cities that have been over run by drugs, and crime, have people who deal drugs making $3.50 an hour, my friend, you need to step outside your sheltered world. Where I'm from, these niggahs may be petty hustling, but they damn sure are pulling in more than $3.50 an hour.

Well, I haven't read the book or viewed the movie but I can speak from my encounters as well as my observations and NO they don't make a lot of money, we see the old and some new cars with big wheels and flashy jewelry but when you look at the big picture they don't make shit!!... one would have to factor in all the overhead, all the hours and all the risks.... Nope.. not much left to take home to the run down home or someone else's home!.. either way, the MAN is the one living large, putting his lilly white children through Harvard..etc.. two or three homes and at least one with a lake or ocean view... I guess some of us will never get past the thinking of FAST bucks... people they don't last long!... it's a classic case of Bait n Switch!! they fool you into thinking there is a lot of money in it.. oh yeah a lot of money goes through your hands but HOW MUCH OF IT DO YOU REALLY GET TO SPEND ON WHAT YOU OR YOUR FAMILY want or NEED?... Think about it.. if there was GOOD money in it, then mostly white people would be dealing!! They wouldn't allow us to have such a well paying job regardless of the RISKS... Don't get me wrong I'm not a racist but I'm blessed enough to see the BIG PICTURE and if we don't get together someday soon (to make our own money working real jobs for and with each other) we won't be in that picture.

the ones making that real paper off crack sells are the people u never see.
they really never even touched crack or cocaine.

the people who see that real paper from dope are people in ur American government....drug czars in neighboring wet back/foreign countries....law enforcement...some fortune 500 companies, etc

yeah most blacks are in prison for drugs.....they were just pawns...it was never meant for them to see the real dough from crack sells.
and for the black folks in the past who did see millions from drugs or those who are seeing stacks right now.....that life style was and will only be lived temporarily.

I'm calling bullshit on this one fam. The average street level dealer makes anywhere from 20-60k per year profit, depending upon what market area he is located in. Obviously the bigger market areas of New York and Cali making more. Mind you half of that has to be turned back over to re-up. All the way down the supply line, from the manufactuer down to the street level, there is a markup on the drugs. Problem is most of these cats just never get to see more than a few grand of that money at a time, and are spending it just as fast as they make it, ie.. cars, clothers, women, clubbbing and flossing in general. Having been there and done that I can tell you from first hand knowledge, its not uncommon in a small market area in the midwest for a mid level cat to make 8-15k per week pure profit, and I couldnt even imagine what a dude in N.Y.C. cali, or Florida is making but it's a hell of a lot more than $3.50 per hour........ I'm not condoning the drug lifestyle as it is a dead end, no two ways about it. The profit is there to be made, but the cost is way too high...............

As it is fast money is just that fast money. Most of the money your average dealer makes goes right back into buying product. And if you factor in him basically working 365 days a year 24hrs a day, then they aren't making shit. How many dealers you know are living 'large'? Hmmmm? Most of these cats can't have shit in thier name because of not having a job capable of covering the income that they do make. No bank account maybe one car in thier girl's or mom's name, some clothes, a few pieces of jewelry, a gun if they need it. And thats about it.
 
Once you factor in operation cost, legal expenses, bail, jail time, 24-7 work hours, getting jerked or robbed, medical bills, funeral costs and general miscellaneous expenditures the average corner boy doesn't make shit... 3.50 an hour is being generous. Most drug dealers would literally profit more (and live better) working for...

Your right but most of those dudes are making the money, they just are spending it on dumb shit. Those clothes that they wear cost a lot of money, and I see boys buying new outfits two, three times a week, with the shoes to match. Add into that their weed and drining habits, fast food, tricking with hoes and strippers, cars, systems, rims, paying for motel rooms, jewlery. They just dont get to keep much of that money. Here we call them 4 corner hustlers, becasue thats all they will ever be. Now that cat on the level above them, the one selling them all those quaters and o's is doing quite well...... but in the end it all ends the same way, dead or in jail. Dude said it best, the old bait and switch.......
 
Oh back in the Golden years of the crack game 86 to 96 most cats in the early part of it were on some worker shit! $20 off a $100 so if i pumped a G pack I got $200 while i paid out $800 to the supplier! you on the spot all day trying to make as much as possible! Now the market became flooded and the rise to Mid level only took a little brains to do, save your money and tax a bit off your pack then get you a weight connect! You would be surprised how many cats refused to get a weight connect and kept buying ready made pre cut rocks!the highest Ive seen a ounce go to was $1200 broke down you could make $2000 to $3000, So naturally If you got a weight connect and did your own foot work you could Go from the Shake man to the Weight MAN In a Week or 2! Once you go to keeping a spot and selling a weight when you reach a quarter of a key you off running! 9 ounces for the price of $4800 to $6000 we going to cut up some lugs to make our shit attractive not only to fiends but cats looking for that double up. So lets say we cut up 5 Oz for $1800 a piece all in sum super sized $20's (guaranteeing that they sell fast!)and sell the other 4 as weight $1200 a Oz
lets look at the #'s weight goes the fastest in a day $4800 off the for OZ sold as weight. $9000 in 2 days with the right spot and the fact that you got double ups!
$13800 total at the extreme you pull out $6000 to re up and make $7800 profit! His GANG rules dont apply everywhere but you do have the constant threat of being killed, robbed, or going to jail! The biggest downfall for cats I know of in the game is PUSSY! A young rough looking cat is not use to getting female attention and gives a damn about dressing trendy, so he is all about grinding! After a while his $$$ stacks and he all the sudden is ATTRACTIVE, but has no Idea How to handle a relationship with The dimes that are now coming at him! 80% of cats slip cause of this Hoe's get niggasrobbed and busted running they mouth and trying to get paid!

True but it all boils down to one thing ........MONEY All the cocoa leaves and processing plants are not here but in white countries and also, the only reason why shit aint legal is cause senator so and so gets a big chunk of Money from lobbyist to keep it illegal! Most of these cats don't sell drugs trying to be on some balling shit...they do it cause that's all they know how to do or can do...some kids drop out of school as early as junior high and run the streets doing that even when they get older cause they have no formal education or job training...or others may have that but they fukked up at some point and it's hard to get a 9 to 5...and as some said...they would make the same low ass pay working a regular "low" level job where they have to break their back as opposed to just hanging on the corner with your boys...that $3.50 calculation is low...and that factoring jail time or this time or that time is dumb...straight up that's the consequences of the trade...game over...the punch clock stop ticking once that happens...

Rayful Edmonds (Aka The $300 Million Dollar Man) was the biggest drug dealer of all time in D.C. He ran the joint and had so much money he practically had to give it away. I showed the documentary to my kids and reminded them (because many of them try to fake like they are really into that shit) that they could no longer make that type of money. There are too many laws and snitches in place that will take care of that. Good post.
