DeLaHoya (aka, boxing's "Golden Boy")threw in the proverbial 'towel', while sitting on the stool in his corner. He was bloody and battered--almost beyond recognition.
His opponent, smaller, but much faster, once again proved a boxing 'truism', i.e., speed and youth will usually overcome power. Although in this case, Pacquiao 's 'speed' created a little' power. He was created with "landing 225 power punches to the 83 "landed" by DeLaHoya.
Plus, age also proved to be a factor ( George Forman, excepted), as was admitted by DeLaHoya--and confirmed by his former Trainer, Freddie Roach.....to which De La Hoya agrees.
Having to come 'down' in weight was also a factor in the overall picture. The "Golden Boy" is no longer "Golden" among todays youthful fighters. Retire man....and stay 'retired'!
