Ivory Coast has banned skin-whitening creams, also known as bleaching creams, because of health concerns, the health ministry said on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

It said in a statement that "cosmetic lightening and hygiene creams that de-pigment the skin are now forbidden."

Bleaching creams have been popular for years among young women and men across Africa, but medical experts say they may cause cancer, diabetes, side-effects such as severe skin conditions, and other diseases.

"The number of people with side-effects caused by these (creams) is really high," a member of Ivory Coast's pharmaceutical authority, Christian Doudouko, said, according to a report by the AFP news agency.

They will fail. This is not the first time this has been tried. The bullshit
will still come through the black market channels that dominate trade
in Africa.... I commend them though...

I would never do no such thing to my

gift of melanin,

then again I know its universal worth!

On a place that gets as much sun as Africa and Jamaica

you just have to be partially retarded to do such a thing

to your blessings..
