Complex: 50 Best New York Rappers of All Time, Ranked

It's people who don't even write their material above elite rappers

Sorry, Kim, Fat Joe, Foxy, ODB

Nore and no AZ or Cormega?

Pharaoh Monche that low?

Chuck D and Sean Price were low.

Lil Kim over Ghostface? Jimmy over Styles? Where's Pac and overrated Em? 3000? Why is Diddy even on the list?

Oh NY only. Still a horrible list

I almost didn’t read further when I opened the article and saw Ice Spice on there but was curious who #1 was. At a glance, this list is BS.

I do want to throw a controversial statement out there:

Notorious BIG is overrated. Only had 2 albums with one being full of features. You can’t have him on a GOAT list over artists who have had more than double the output of good albums and songs. For example, both Nas and LL Cool J clearly beat BIG in output, longevity, impact, sales, and battles.

Didn’t make it past 50 cause wtf is an Ice Spice?

If this list wasn’t made by anybody over the age of 45, I ain’t tryna hear it.

Melle Mel, Grand Puba, and Big Daddy Kane's rankings are laughable, along with many others

Ll and nas longevity over big smh… I think it’s obvious why that is.. if nas and ll got gun down b4 their second albulm was released do you think people would consider them the goat or top 5? He’ll throw in jay z.. if he only had reasonable doubt and vol 1 under his belt

For the record I actually like ll and give him respect for his achievements

You have to go off output, not potential. Plenty of artists fell off after 2 albums. You can't assume BIG would have kept the same momentum as the height of his career. Especially with Jay Z coming into his stride and DMX coming out the next year. A large part of BIG's success was Bad Boy and pretty much all of their artists were declining around that time.
I think you are really underappreciating LL and Nas longevity too. Very few artists have been able to maintain relevance through multiple decades like they have.

I literally gave ll props. I was speaking more about your comment about big not having longevity. It’s obvious he died.. he didn’t fall off he literally was killed. Now if big came out with 10 albulms and ll ,nas, and jay all died b4 their second albulm would you say big had longevity and them guys didn’t? It’s kinda obvious a dead man can’t continue his success

I’m not saying it is his fault he didn’t have the longevity. Im saying he didn’t have the longetivity.

Bo Jackson was immensely talented and had a lot of potential but not considered the greatest RB of all time because he didn’t have the longevity of Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmett Smith, Jim Brown etc. It wasn’t his fault that his career was cut short either.

Do you think LL or Nas have an entire better album than Life After Death?
