Columbus Blue Jackets assistant Sylvain Lefebvre out after declining COVID-19 vaccination

Sylvain Lefebvre is out as a Columbus Blue Jackets assistant over his decision to not receive a COVID-19 vaccine, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen confirmed Monday.

"Per NHL protocol, he is unable to do the job we hired him for," Kekalainen told ESPN.

Last month, the NHL sent a memo to its teams stating that any people whose jobs entail them to be within 12 feet of club hockey operations personnel, including players, "are required to be fully vaccinated."

Lefebvre was hired in June to join new head coach Brad Larsen's staff after serving as an assistant coach with the AHL San Diego Gulls, the Anaheim Ducks' affiliate, for three seasons.

AHL Cleveland Monsters associate coach Steve McCarthy has been promoted to the Blue Jackets bench to replace him.

"Steve has done a great job working with our young defensemen in Cleveland the past five years and is ready for this opportunity," Larsen said in a statement. "He is a really bright, young coach with a great work ethic and I'm excited about what he will bring to our staff."

Lefebvre played 14 seasons in the NHL as a defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers.

He's the NHL second assistant coach to part ways with his team due to the COVID vaccine mandate. San Jose Sharks associate coach Rocky Thompson stepped down from his role due to a medical exemption that prevents him from receiving a vaccination.

NHL sources had said that a large majority of players have been vaccinated before the 2021-22 season. Unvaccinated players will face significant restrictions this season, especially when traveling on the road. Teams can suspend unvaccinated players who are "unable to participate in club activities."

The NHL is offering players the chance to opt out of the season due to personal health concerns before an Oct. 1 deadline.

I was studying the Cam Newton debacle and 'unpaid' influencer they had at the White House, it is implied that they do unpaid promotions for the government such as ad hoc public health/exhibiting patriotism or lose their jobs permanently.

I had a couple obsessively come at me and now I know why. After coming at me they got a huge deal with Fox Newscorp.

If they came out of pocket athletes could be draping the flag and shedding tears during the National Anthem. Instead they are kneeling and looking at their watch. They need to issue free market deals and come out of pocket

Yes, it is in player contracts to do this. Players can be fined if they do not make their quota for public appearances during a season, usually to push a local company or national level charity.

Higher level athletes are brought into politics as shills, like LeBron James for the DNC or Herschel Walker for the GOP and people think it is genuine support when it is all business.

The biggest trick a sports league pulled in the last decade was Roger Goodell and Colin Kaepernick, who were actually colluding to make the NFL the most “woke” out of the Big 4 and they were successful. The end game was to get more women in the sport and they now have women coaches and women officials, more than any other league.

The NHL and WNBA have also taken to bring “woke” to improve visibility for a failing product.

This is real patriotism, I am not draping shit over this piece of shit white supremacist country. If they want this fake patriotism drama, $$$$$. Epstein wanted me to say he was a great guy $$$$ when he was a serial pedophile.

The U.S. government don't know how to give out billion dollar endorsement deals. They have to calculate the prevailing wage times hours, your writing a large check all at once

Everybody knows the sordid history with slavery, and now it has morphed into a narco state. Patriotism is a commodity that can be bought and sold.
