Offensive Lineman From Mt. San Antonio College Arrested for Punching Out Referee During Football Game

Bernard Schirmer, an offensive lineman for Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, California), has been arrested for allegedly punching out a referee on the field during a game against Ventura College Saturday. The Ventura County Star reports that Schirmer has been arrested on suspicion of battery.

In the video below, you’ll see the referee step in to try and diffuse a situation, and he ends up in the middle of the Mt. San Antonio College team. Then, #52 (Schirmer) appears to punch the referee, knocking him out. He’s laid out on the field at the feet of another referee before the video ends.
Junior College Football Player Punches Game Official

An important matchup in the California junior college ranks Saturday night took a violent turn, as an offensive lineman knocked out an official after being separated from a player on the opposing team.

During the game between Mt. San Antonio College and Ventura College, Mt. SAC lineman Bernard Schirmer was sent back to his team’s huddle by an official after getting into a confrontation with a Ventura College player. Despite the efforts of the official and some of his teammates Schirmer did not calm down, eventually punching the official and knocking him out cold.

Per the Ventura County Star, Schirmer, a 6-foot-5 freshman from Long Beach, California, wasarrested on suspicion of battery on a game official following the game.

Ventura College would go on to win the game 35-29, knocking off the team ranked first in theJCFootball.com national poll entering the weekend.
 
So now it comes to this? Pressing charges? The ref was pushing the players back, understandably so.

And yeah he may have caught a quick one to the face during a fog of war moment.
