Your News Wire published the false report in question on November 30, 2017. It appears under the headline, “CIA Agent Confesses On Deathbed: ‘I Killed Bob Marley.’” Within days, it had been shared nearly 100,000 times on social media.

A false report that a CIA agent confessed to murdering Bob Marley circulated on Facebook in December 2017.

A 79-year-old CIA agent identified as Bill Oxley is the only source. On his deathbed in Maine, Oxley supposedly confessed to a carrying out a number of assassinations for the CIA. Bob Marley’s topped the list.

The story goes that Oxley, posing as a New York Times photographer, gave Marley a gift — a pair of Converse All Stars. And one of the shoes “was tainted with cancer viruses and bacteria.” Marley supposedly cried out when he was pricked by something in the shoe, infecting himself with cancer.

So, it’s no surprise that this story’s facts don’t check out. Bob Marley died of melanoma in 1981. This type of melanoma is not transmitted by “cancer viruses and bacteria,” as the rumor claims. While it’s true that transmittable viruses like HPV, Epstein-Burr virus and Hepatitis can lead to elevated risks for certain types of cancers, Bob Marley’s case doesn’t align with any of them.

The type of melanoma that Bob Marley had — which develops on areas of the body where there’s hairless skin (like the soles of feet) — is unique. And it’s almost always caused by genetic factors, the Skin Cancer Foundation reports:

While most melanomas are caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or from tanning machines, this type, which develops on hairless skin such as under nails, on the soles of the feet or palms of the hands, is more likely caused by genetic factors. Bill Oxley – a 79-year-old retired officer of the CIA came out with very stunning confessions on his deathbed. One of them being ” I Killed Bob Marley”. The confession happened at the Mercy Hospital in Maine on Monday after the officer was told he only has a few weeks left on earth. Other confessions included the alleged claimed to have committed seventeen (17) murders on account of America between 1974 and 1985.

29 Years As a CIA Agent
Oxley, an operative with a top-level security clearance, is a trained sniper and marksman. He is also very well versed in other types of ways to kill notably poisons, explosives, induced heart attacks and cancer. His sets of skills put him in the top position to be used as a hitman by the organization targeting individuals who could or have been representing some type of threat.

The Assassinations
March 1974 to August 1985, the lifespan of his assassinations during which he was part of an operation unit consisting of three (3) other assassins like himself. The aim of said unit was to carry out political assassinations across the country and even foreign countries. And so, murders were carried out on individuals of various backgrounds, political activists, medical researchers, artists and musicians whose ideas and influence “represented a threat to the interests of the United States” reveals the retiree.

I had no problem going through the assassination of Bob Marley because I was a patriot, I believed in the CIA, and I didn’t question the motivation of the agency. I’ve always understood that sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.

Oxley also confessed that Bob Marley was unique among his victims because he was a “good man, a beautiful soul” with “profound artistic gifts” who did not deserve to die so soon. However, the legendary Jamaican singer was a huge obstacle in the eyes of the CIA thus threatening the existence of the United States.

How The Murder Happened
Two days after Bob Marley was shot in the left arm by one of three gunmen who ambushed the singer and some of his crew in his house in Kingston, and after a brief stint in hospital, Bob Marley travelled to the protective hills of the Blue Mountains and spent time at the highest point in Jamaica, rehearsing for an upcoming concert.
According to Mr. Oxley, he used press credentials to gain access to Bob Marley during his Blue Mountains retreat. He introduced himself as a famous photographer working for the New York Times, and gave Bob Marley a gift.

Why would he trust a gift from someone he didn't know within weeks of a murder attempt?

Most damning, at least some of the people who work for the CIA back then are still in the agency or other government alphabets. They don't want to spend their golden years in prison. They don't want programs they spent decades building shut down. So why would they let this guy live long enough to reach his Deathbed?

He would have been better off to do this....

Man I’ve worked around real assassins (spec ops guys and seals) and you know how many of em ever said they killed someone? Even when we picked em up and they looked like hell. Go ahead and guess.
