Public Enemy founder Chuck D. has addressed comments and criticism regarding a new restaurant group member Flavor Flav recently opened in Clinton, Iowa.

Flavor Flav opened his business Flav's Fried Chicken last week, drawing worldwide media attention to the eatery, which is co-owned with restauranteur, Nick Cimino.

Some headlines ranged from humorous, saying the business set America back 60 years, while others used the opening to ask more serious questions about race in the media.

"He does groundbreaking sht in South Africa etc 71 tour 76 countries and press rather pay attention to asking me about Flavs chicken WTF?" Chuck D. tweeted. "I give FLAV credit I rather him sell something most people EAT ..like why does Popeye Bojangles and The Colonel get automatic blackfolk?"

Chuck D. pointed out that both Sean "Diddy" Combs (Justin's) and Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter (The 40/40 Club and Buffalo Boss) both have successful restaurants, which have not been scrutinized in the same manner as Flavor Flav's Fried Chicken.

"So the twitiot question here is how does 51 year old Flavor Flav make a living besides being a musician in PE? And would YOU support that? Flav opens a chicken frAnchise and thinks of entering where Diddy and your favorites have done. Mind u I don't drink OR eat chicken."

As for Flavor Flav, he seems to be brushing off the criticism. In a new interview with the Des Moines Register, Flavor explained that he planned to be very hands on with the business - literally.

"I don't want to be just known to have a spot," Flavor Flav said. "You're going to find me in here working. On one hand, I was raised on PE Music and shit if you didn't become more aware of the way the media portrays us you either weren't listening or lack a soul. We've argued forever and a day that we need to control our image and not fall prey to cooning, shucking and jiving.

On the other hand black people are considered "less than" no matter what we do anyway. We have a black president and Cacs still can't tell the difference between him and Flava Flav. I say sling the chicken pay your bills. Fuck it.

Chuck D.'s always trying to save Flav's ass. He's the one who hooked him up with VH-1 after he got out of crackhead prison in New York and was drifting. Wanted to keep him out of trouble, and helped give him a new career as a reality star (which obviously couldn't last after the novelty of his act wore off).

All you can do as a Black person is not fall prey to cooning yourself. My sister-in-law thinks there is nothing cooler than being ghetto. She looks up to those ignorant bastards instead of taking advantage of the privileged life that she has had so far. Instead of going away to college she wants to stay around Cleveland to be around some bum who never graduated high school or got his GED and his loser ghetto family. It's her life to fuck up. :smh:

Let Flav live. Opening a restaurant is far better than some of the shit these washups are on. I knew exactly why he fit into the PE Machine. His personal antics were his that he as a man had to eat. Since when were people supposed to take him seriously? He was an idiot savant...and he is probably a few people you all have passed in real life. A buffoon but a smart buffoon.

Chuck doesn't need to say anything. Chuck is like 50 and can still rock a mic, the write a whole blog entry the next day. He knows what it is. What's better...knowing your boy is a sell out coon hitting the crack again...or setting up shop in Iowa and making legitimate bread and staying out of trouble? I'll take that last option.

Alot of people dont realize it, but that was Flavas purpose of being in P.E. in the first place. Flava was a representation of whats wrong with the black image, and community. He personified that when they did shows, and in music videos. They knew people didnt wanna hear them, so they added Flav, and whenever a person would flip channels, they would stop to see Flav cooning on stage. That was their strategy to get your attention long enough for Chuck D to drop the message.

Flav is STONE COLD BROKE
What does that mean? That he is NOT opening a fried chicken place but he is a mascot for selling fried chicken ... look back at the history in this country 'N**gger Soap" and other "Alligator Bait" ... flavor flav is not an authority on anything but buffoonary imo

That's such a gross mis-characterization of the facts that Chuck would undoubtedly slap the shit out of anyone who said that to his face. Stop trying to re-write history with bullshit facts, man. If you think Flav was coon in P.E., then you need to stop using the word, bruh. You have no clue about what the word really means.

The truth is, if Flav wasn't a funny looking, cripsy black nigga with gold teeth, NO ONE would think he was a "coon". Flav's role in P.E. was to keep WHITE PEOPLE from becoming too afraid of the group. Just because Flav wasn't a deep thinker like Chuck doesn't mean his contributions weren't valuable. Flav is one of the main reasons why P.E. got heard and stuck around. And if that makes him a "coon"...then that's just fucking sad.
