Chicago Members, how good would Ronnie Fields have been had he not broken his neck?

I commented on the other post about below average nba players being way better than any baller at a rec league and got to thinking about some of the better players i've seen.

In my opinion, Ronnie Fields was the best high school player I've ever seen (his teammate Kevin Garnett said so in th evideo below). This dude was a phenom and was a 3 time all american. Dude still had a 37 inch vert after breaking his neck in a car accident. To the chi-town members, how do you think Ronnie Fields would have projected in the nba?

I am thinking a more athletic mix between nate robinson and eric gordan. i definitely think he would've got 16 a game in the nba.

Ronnie Fields played at Farragut Academy in Chicago from 1992–1996 and was a teammate of Kevin Garnett during the 1995 season. Fields had a (reported) 50-inch vertical leap. He was a 3-time Parade All American selection (1994–96) and a consensus First Team All American (Parade, USA Today, McDonald's) his senior year. He was also the first sophomore to ever play in the "Best of the Best" game at the Nike All American camp in 1993, a game that featured NBA MVP'S Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, and Naismith Prep Player of the Year winners Ron Mercer and Jerod Ward.

Fields was injured in a car accident on February 26, 1996, in which he broke his neck. He had to wear a protective halo while his neck healed. He left high school as the third all-time leading scorer in Chicago Public League history with 2,619 points. His high school teammates include Garnett (95), Arizona Wildcat forward Michael Wright (98) and Willie Farley (95).

Like Garnett, Fields signed a letter of intent at DePaul University in his hometown but was later ruled academically ineligible.

That dude was solid. Same as Shae Cotton. But if I remember correctly, he was a head down player. EG is definitely heads up.

He should have taken that year to get his grades straight and then gone to DePaul. From what I know of him he would have made it.6'3" athletic with great timing to block shots and get rebounds along from what I heard was an unstoppable turnaround jumper.Got a couple of DVDs of Farragut games recently so I could witness just how great he was.

Him and Garrnet lost the first game in state tournament in High school. He was a beast for the Rockford Lightning a CBA team.

Co-sign.

A could leap over a car and dunk, but his jumper and defense was SUSPECT. He have made a few bucks in the L but that accident killed those dreams. Remember that big ass halo dude had to walk around wearing to keep his head and neck stable after his crash? :itsawrap:

Ronnie Fields had the craziest vertical and dunking ability I ever seen in my life. This cat would throw down between the leg windmill dunks IN GAME. He used to play insummertime pro-am games at IIT and he was always the best player on the court and there some ballers at those tourneys like tim hardaway, juwan howard and antoine walker. Dude was truly a beast athletically. I'm sure he could've played pro.

Was in school in the Chi at the same time as Fields. Remember him playing clearly... boy was a beast - no joke, among the best in HS in the nation at the time, maybe of all time. Sad situation all around.

I think he would've done well in the league. HOF? No, but a helluva player with a decent career.

Sixteen a game? That's it?

How many threads do you see on BGOL about NBA dudes averaging under 20ppg?
