Illinois Institute of Technology student Jermiron “Jay” Morris was beaten to death by another student on the school’s Bronzeville campus on the South Side early Thursday.

Morris, 36, and the another student were returning to campus early Thursday when they got into a fight, according to Chicago Police and a statement on IIT’s website.

Morris was found lying on the ground with blood and trauma to his face at 5 a.m. in the 3000 block of South Wabash Avenue, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The other student, a 43-year-old man, was taken into custody, police said.

“There is no immediate threat to the community,” according to IIT. “Our thoughts are with the family.”

Counselors were being made available for students Thursday.

Morris, of Chicago, was the recipient of IIT’s Presidential Scholarship, according to the school’s website. He transferred to the Industrial Technology and Management Department in 2013 after working as a trucker and earning an associate’s degree in logistics at Richard J. Daley College. He was expected to graduate later this year.

“I am very proud to be an ambassador for INTM and IIT in my community,” Morris said in a statement on the school’s website. “As I begin my final year of study, I feel very prepared to face whatever challenges await.”

Used to mess with a Asian chick that goes to that school.
School has high tuition's.
That entire area over there (near US cellular) is up and coming.
Once they knock that Jets down.....all u see is mainly white and foreign college students walking up and down the low ends of state street. They had a lot planned for the Olympics...but that didnt work out.

Anyways....
Cant figure it out in a more peaceful matter....shit happens.
When u fight....u gotta have self control and know when to "turn it off".
Some folks dont know how to calm down..and thats when people die.

Just like when we see fight videos of folks delivering all those kicks to the head.

yeah.
Ive seen some gruesome shit on video...beheadings etc...but seeing a mofo get their head stomped...or the sound of their head hitting the ground... makes me cringe for some reason. ONce a person is open enough to get their head stomped....more than likely theyre already down and out.
Why keep going? Unless your motive is to kill them.

Thats why i always use fighting, or any type of violence, as a last resort.
i dont want no problems.

RIP to the deceased.

It's INSANE to think what that area was 15 years ago compared to now. :smh:

IIT used to have the good Pro-Am league in the summer...

That area was always kinda of a diamond in the ruff with IIT there and DeLaSalle..

Since they tore town Stateway and Robert Taylor they been gentrifying it but that was in the plans when they built that Big Ass Police District Building..

Low end is no more

Damn shame to see a brother working his way to great things snuffed out like this. Call me whatever, but at a point you get too old for this shit. Walk away, etc, but do what you have to do to avoid fighting. Not speaking on the situation since I wasn't there but, 43 and 36?! Unless you touch me, I'm trying to avoid this type of thing. And something tells me it was over some bullshit too...

RIP to both of the.... Two lives lost over some dumb shit... :smh:

These dudes kind of old to be doing this shit. 36 and 43 wth ? smh
Respect for him getting his education and RIP

you can have a dispute at any age that may escalate.

of course peace is the 1st option & you SHOULD be wise enough

at 36-43 years of age to avoid most bullshit conflict. BUT.......

It's crazy you say this. When I read this, I thought about those MMA matches where the guy is out, ref is waving off the fight and declaring the match over, while the victor is still trying to get in a few more shots.
