Chelsea have completed the £15million signing of Nicolas Anelka from Bolton.

The London club had an earlier bid for the 28-year-old Frenchman rejected but returned with an increased offer.

Blues boss Avram Grant said after Chelsea's Carling Cup semi-final first leg win over Everton on Tuesday that he hoped to clinch a deal in time for Saturday's Premier League clash with Tottenham.

Chelsea are without Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, who are away at the African Cup of Nations, while Andriy Shevchenko has an ankle injury.

On Thursday Anelka's advisor Doug Pingisi said the striker was keen on a move to Chelsea.

It is believed a bid in the region of £11million was rejected on Monday.

'He really wants to go to Chelsea,' Pingisi said in French daily L'Equipe.

'Nicolas is calm. He hopes that everything will be finalised this week.

'He has been waiting for such an opportunity for years. He appreciates the fact that he is at the top of the list of players wanted by Chelsea at the moment.

'For Nico, it is very important he finds a club that will allow him to express himself at the highest level.

'Moreover, this club is still involved in every competition, particularly the Champions League.'

Anelka's first English club was Chelsea's rivals Arsenal, who he signed for in 1997 from Paris St Germain for £500,000.

After moving to Real Madrid and then back to Paris St Germain, he returned to England in 2001, signing on loan at Liverpool. The Anfield side decided not to sign him permanently and he moved to Manchester City a year later. In 2005 he joined Fenerbache and 12 months later joined Bolton in a club record £8 million deal.

Quality player. Sad he got his act together so late. Good move for him but as long as Lampard is in the team their strikers will be starved of goals.

Quality player but one of the biggest mercenaries in football. His career transfers come up to 80 million pounds which is a crazy figure. Man has no loyalty and many have said he has a slight attitude problem.

Any other club and 10mill would have done it.

True say about Lampard though, that guy has the highest number of shots on goal at the end of each season. Nowhere near the top scorers though..

good move, now we should have a good chance of challenging arsenal and manu for the epl. but im concerned if hes compatible with the players including lampard. thats why im worried if ronaldinho leaves barca to chelsea, i hope he goes to milian. drogba, ronaldinho, kaka, gilardino, inzaghi and etc. thats a hell of an squad:yes:

I'm sure that France is gonna win the Euro 2008 in Zurich and Nicolas will help it . Our national team will be great ! Even if I think that Arsenal will get the Premier League championship this year .

Challenging, but I don't think you'll win it. I think Man Utd will do that, they have a squad similar in depth to Chelsea but have not been hit with injury or ANC. IF, they stay injury free they're gonna take it I think.

Chelsea will take 2nd/3rd with Arsenal, Liverpool won't make the top 4 putting more pressure on them to win Champions League... which they won't.

france:smh:, they're currently in a rebuilding process. portugal have a chance of winning but they lack a strong striker or winger to support CR7(ronaldo), but they have a chance.

i hope chelsea win the league, last season evryone said we was down and out but we came back towards the end, this season injuries are hurting us. if chelsea dont win manu will repeat, cause i think they have the best squad in EUFA at this moment. CR7 today had a hat trick with tevez dropping 2 goals and rio scoring also, manu brought their "A" game today.

who u got winning the champions league? my heart say chelsea or barca but my mind say manu. real madrid is my sleeper pick.
