Car Quandary

The lease on my G37 convertible is up next August. I may turn it in around October this year as the car is not nearly as much fun to drive with the top up -- let alone in the winter. I'm hoping that out of $5,000 that would be owed I would only have to pay about $3,000. Any one have experience with this scenario.

The bigger issue is what to get next. I wanted a 4-cylinder or diesel engine. My fear is that gas prices will go crazy. Then, my brother bought a used supercharged Jaguar that looks like a Ferrari. Then, 3 weeks ago my boy bought a new Bentley Continental. Fuck a practical car. So, I'm thinking that I can get a used Porsche to at least be in the realm of these cats. I'll keep my Cayenne S and get a used 911 Carrera, Cayman or Panamera.

Add to the equation that I am in the car alone 50% of the time with the Mrs. 40% of the time and with the son and Mrs. 10% of the time. Trying to pay cash.

Any thoughts? No duck tales. Aston Martin? Some Italian car? The thing is after having owned BMW and Mercedes-Benz and all the repair time I really enjoy taking my Cayenne S in for practically only 10,000 mile oil changes. Porsche makes very reliable cars. Any cars I haven't considered?

If you got a good residual on the G, You may be able to take it to carmax and get a check for mor ethan the payoff amount. I have a G Coupe and last i checked, it was worth $1500 more to Carmax than the Payoff.

You already have a Cayenne as your luxury car. It appears that you want a very practical car as your everyday car, so you should look at the Passat TDI diesel.. It's big, good looking and reliable.

check out a used 911 Targa definitely get the 4 or splurge for the 4s for the extra power, you're not going to see anyone else in that model, its a 4 seater, all wheel drive, and its the next best thing to having a drop top

bruh u went from stressin over a cpl thousand and trying to hedge against your fear of higher gas prices, to deciding you need to buy an exotic whose annual maintenance fees not to mention their terrible gas mileage will end up costing in one year the equivalent of a more practical fuel efficient vehicle like the passat that was mentioned. you need to decide where your priorities lie. not trying to be judgmental but i think that is more important than which car you get. if you decide to go the exotic route im sure you'll find the car you want after searching around yourself.

C'mon man. You are going to the opposite end of the spectrum just to "be in the realm of these cats".

I've got to say it. Fuck "these cats". If you want an exotic then get it. If not, then don't.

If "these cats" sell their exotics in 12 - 15 months because it wasn't what they expected it to be or admit it was over rated, how will you feel about your choice?

For better or for worse, do YOU and only YOU.

So that I fully understand, you leasing a G37, you don't like it, and are worried about $2K in residual costs right over a 2yr period? So you asking what to do, because you appear to not be able to afford $2K on that lease return.

The bigger issue is what to get next. I wanted a 4-cylinder or diesel engine. My fear is that gas prices will go crazy. Then, my brother bought a used supercharged Jaguar that looks like a Ferrari. Then you want us to believe that while you really desire a cheap economical car, i.e. something <$30K, your low self esteem pushes you toward financial ruin like your friend who wanted a Ferrari, but could only afford the Jag that looked like one (BTW, Jags are still one of the most unreliable cars for maintenance and repair costs), and your boy in Continental. You affirm your non-balling low self esteemed status, yet again, by stating, "I'll keep my Cayenne S and get a used 911 Carrera". Why go used V8/V6 Porsche when you admitted you wanted a 4 banger because you couldn't afford the gas in the current V6 G37 which gets better mileage than any Porsche? HUH?

Add to the equation that I am in the car alone 50% of the time with the Mrs. 40% of the time and with the son and Mrs. 10% of the time. Trying to pay cash.

Then you bring up some random qualitative measure of time spent as though it matters? Huh?

Any thoughts? No duck tales. Aston Martin? Some Italian car? The thing is after having owned BMW and Mercedes-Benz and all the repair time I really enjoy taking my Cayenne S in for practically only 10,000 mile oil changes. Porsche makes very reliable cars. Any cars I haven't considered?

Thoughts? I think you live in an apartment with die cast collectibles of the cars you name. If the avg american drives their luxury vehicle 12K-15K miles a year, you go once a year for svc. If you really owned a Cayenne S, you'd know that at the time of purchase, Porsche N.A sells you the maintenance plan based on a schedule derived from your driving habits and the total cost is amortized into your payment making your cost $0 at the time of maintenance. Also, vehicle downtime wouldn't matter as you would have a loaner car. You would expect that level service as even Infiniti offers that on even basic oil changes.

Cars you haven't considered? Hmm, I'd recommend something in a Kia for you. I hear they are very popular, great on gas, and the hoes love them so much because Blake Griffin dunked on one.

p.s. GTFOHWTBS! Scrooge McDuck wouldn't even dignify your post with an appearance.

Very astute observations. Hopefully, the following missive will explain the sudden change in car philosophies.

OK, about 6 months ago I was $60k in debt. Judge ordered me to pay $15k in back child support after raising my child support payments. Credit cards, cars, etc. I dont know how I was getting by other than hitting up my wife and our savings. I had recently moved my law office. It was essentially closed for a few months during renovations. Things on top of things. So, I've been in catching up mode for awhile.

I decided that as much as I love my G37 convertible it is not a practical NYC car. Also, we pay a lot more for gas than we did a few short months ago. Being in the Meditteranean last summer showed me those high ass gas prices which scared the shit out of me. So, you understand where my mind was at.

Now, my law office is thriving again and with the additional advertising that is rolling out this week should increase my revenue several fold. Even if it only doubles, I'm winning. The only advertising I have now is my website, business cards and a "sandwich board" logo outside my office as there is scaffolding outside my building. One of my corporate clients is allowig me to place signs and cards inside his high-traffic stores.

Fast-forward, the debt is gone. Porsche is paid off. House is so inexpensive that we have a 10-year mortgage. We're not having additional children. I've made more money in a month than I did in 2011. Accordingly, my fears may be overblown.

The dude that bought the Bentley said to me, "Don't get a less expensive car. Work smarter, harder and push yourself to get the most." A great number of the athletes and entertainers that are discussed on BGOL are represented by or invested for by me and my network. I think its easier to get rich from the 99% rather than chasing the 1%.

I will say this, I definitely undercharge my clients as I always feel sorry for them but that shit is changing.

I'm debating between a 2009 M-B CL 550 all wheel drive or a 2008-2009 M-B CL 63. Man, that CL 63 is a beast. (white/white or white/tan preferred) Checked the Maseratis but did not like them. Drove a Ferrari 2 or 3 weekends ago from a Groupon coupon. It was like driving an ultrafast go kart.

With the Lord's blessings, the law office is incredibly flourishing. We should open two new businesses by the end of the year. A cleaning business (BGOL) and a real estate office. Hopefully, I'll soon open a tax office as well.

Lease a 2013 BMW M6 convertible and you'll shut your boys up with that car. I think I saw Chris Tucker and some girl driving a blue one yesterday afternoon and it was stunning
