A car barreled into a parked SUV protecting President Biden’s motorcade Sunday night as the commander-in-chief was leaving his campaign headquarters in Delaware.
Biden was walking from the campaign office to his armored SUV when a silver sedan with Delaware plates crashed into a US Secret Service vehicle that was used to close off the intersection near the headquarters for the president’s departure.
The sedan, which sustained bumper damage, then tried to drive into a closed-off intersection before Secret Service agents swarmed the vehicle with weapons pulled and forced the driver to surrender.
Biden was taken into his car, where his wife, first lady Jill Biden, was already waiting before they were quickly driven home.
The 81-year-old Democrat and his wife are safe.

The Secret Service said there was “no protective interest” tied to the incident, which means the crash was not intentional and the driver was likely unaware of Biden’s presence, CNN reported.

“Today, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a Secret Service vehicle securing the President’s motorcade route was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington, DE,” spokesperson Steve Kopek told the outlet.
“There was no protective interest associated with this event and the President’s motorcade departed without incident.”
The Post has reached out to the Secret Service for comment.

Wilmington police told the New York Times that no one was injured and authorities were investigating if impairment was a factor in the crash.
Before the incident, Jill Biden first walked into the vehicle after leaving campaign offices in downtown Wilmington around 8:07 p.m.
Then the president exited the campaign headquarters, and moments after he responded to a shouted question from the press, a loud bang went off, which seemed to surprise Biden, according to the White House press pool report.

Biden and his wife visited campaign headquarters Sunday night where they ate pasta with tomato sauce with members of his election team.
The incident wasn’t the first incident involving a Biden motorcade.
In 2020, then-President-elect Biden’s motorcade crashed with another car in Wilmington, Delaware.
The trooper and a 77-year-old woman ended up with minor injuries, according to state police.

In 2015, an NYPD motorcycle cop on then-Vice President Biden’s detail was injured when he crashed his bike while escorting the vice president to the airport.
The highway patrol officer was riding with the motorcade across the Triborough Bridge at around 2:15 p.m. on September 11, 2015 when he spun out of control.
Biden — who had been in town for an appearance on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and 9/11 ceremonies — was told about the accident while boarding Air Force Two.
