Jumping in to save someone else could cost you your life. A panic-stricken drowning victim will fight you, cling to you and climb on top of you in a effort to lift themselves out of the water. This could pull you under or knock you out and cause you both to drown. The increased adrenaline released by the panicked individual will make them significantly stronger than you may be prepared to deal with.
