Can my cell number be ported at a late date ?

Thinking about picking up an Evo next week, I currently subscribe to Verizon. I want to test the Evo out and make sure that I can get the same coverage I do with Verizon. If the I like the phone I will make the switch to Sprint, will I be able to port my Verizon number at a later date or is this only an option when I first buy the phone ?
 
You can port it at anytime.

Get the Sprint phone, use it for however long and if your'e satisfied port your number on top of the current number.
 
I was able to do this with ATT last year..

I had a verizon phone....got a new ATT Iphone to test it out. Didn't port until 4 months later.
Before the port..I used forwarding, so I didn't have to give people the ATT number.
 
Thanks, for all the info. One major thing I will need to be able to use the Evo overseas does anyone know if that is possible as well ?

There's a world phone coming to Verizon next year. But i dont believe there is as of yet.

No body has the network Verizon has, period. I'm on T-Mobile and the national coverage sucks ass. But I can go abroad because they sell sim calls everywhere I go.
