Can Any Republican Defeat President Obama?

Everybody out of this bunch would have a tough time but with the so-called Tea Party groups pushing them further right, the highly unpopular Paul Ryan attack on Medicare and new Democratic energy sparked by actions of Republican governors and state houses since January, it's going to be even harder.
The only three real contenders are Romney, Pawlenty, and Huntsman, with Huntman being the most likely one of that bunch. The GOP seems to hate Romney with a passion so they'll undercut him like they did McCain in 08 if he wins.

I doubt it. Those who rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on the loyalty of Paul. Seems like we are going to have four more years of Bush, the Sequel.

Very simplistic and inaccurate thinking to see Obama as Bush.

But going with that, which of these Republicans do you see doing anything different than what Bush was doing? Wouldn't it be, going by your logic, Bush's 4th term either way? Or is just Obama Bush?

I don't think I'm inaccurate. There is not one single major policy angle that Bush had that Obama has not continued. He bailed out his friends, kept troops in Iraq, and is giving preferential treatment to energy friends, and has continued the assault on civil liberties, while maintaining huge stockpiles of government documents secret. We have learned more about Gov. foreign policy from Wikileaks.

The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can "throw the rascals out" at any election without leading to any profound or extreme shifts in policy.
