NPD sales figures for December show that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare took the top spot this holiday season, selling 1.47 million copies of the Xbox 360 version alone. The Activision published shooter just narrowly beat out Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, which settled for number two and 1.4 million sold to software hungry Wii owners.

The rest of the list features familiar faces, with Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero III selling ludicrous amounts. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii takes the tail end of the top ten, making the Sega-predicted 4 million copies sold seem that much more reasonable.

01. Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360) - 1,470,000
02. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 1,400,000
03. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) - 1,250,000
04. Wii Play with Remote (Wii) - 1,080,000
05. Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360) - 893,700
06. Halo 3 (Xbox 360) - 742,700
07. Brain Age 2: More Training In Minutes A Day (DS) - 659,500
08. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) - 655,200
09. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360) - 624,600
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) - 613,000

I haven't played it. When my 360 gets fixed I'll gamefly it. I'm still in awe of how good Half Life 2 and it's episodes was.

Nigga Halo 3 sold like 3 million it's first week, look it up. That doesn't mean that it doesn't suck but still...the sales don't lie.

i wasnt talking about how much it sold in its 1st week.
i'm talking about halo heads were braggin on the game so hard
only to see the stats that Jagi posted up now.
:hmm:

Today's NPD sales numbers reveal that Bungie's Halo 3 was the best selling game in the United States in 2007, with a whopping 4.82 million copies sold. Nipping at Master Chief's heels was Nintendo's own Wii Play. It sold through a staggering 4.12 million units to the masses.

Despite generally negative review scores, it would seem that Wii owners were consumed by the prospect of more mini-games (and a second Wii remote) nearly on par with the thirst that Xbox 360 owners had for more Halo. An impressive feat for Nintendo, but more impressive for Microsoft, considering Wii Play had a seven month head start on the first-person shooter

The top ten best selling games in the USA for last year are after the jump.

01. Halo 3 (Xbox 360) - 4,820,000
02. Wii Play with Remote (Wii) - 4,120,000
03. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360) - 3,040,000
04. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) - 2,720,000
05. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 2,520,000
06. Pokemon Diamond (DS) - 2,480,000
07. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) - 1,900,000
08. Guitar Hero II (PS2) - 1,890,000
09. Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360) - 1,870,000
10. Mario Party 8 (Wii) - 1,820,000

What is impressive is that wii play still is selling more then halo 3 after halo 3 initial bump. Also the most impressive thing every wii title was exclusive and all together the probably cost 1/100th of the development cost of Halo. Also important is that 2 of the 3 360 titles were FPS. Again showing that the 360 will fail.

well when you think about it COD4 kind of comes first... because factor in all the HALO hype and the casual gaming Wii offers. You know everybody was jumpin around for Halo 3 to come out, all those fools wearing Halo armor and all that, but not COD4... Parents probably got their kids Wii so they can play with the family. People who never play video games have wiis.

COD4 is gonna pass H3 in sale's. I was playing this game all week none stop, the game is hard to put down.

#1 game on the PS3 a FPS

"We even get software info for the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty 4, which sold 522,000 copies to the Xbox 360's 1.47 million. Hang in there guys! ."

not a fair assesment

i bought wii play only cause it came with the controller. if it was a separate game alone, the word would have gone out that it sucks ass.

cod4 is converting halo hardcore players. its not surprising. the word is that because the 360 has such a large install base it can sustain two fps game well. proof is halo 3 and cod4 (while no one has forgotten vegas 2 or gears of war)

The ps3 has cod4 as its number one fps (with resistance and ut3 following)

but the hardcore halo players got a taste of a real fps and are converting in rapid numbers. its one thing to say that they are different type of shooters (which they are) but halo couldnt carry ammunition for cod4 on a good day.

regardless of sales on either system. Call of Duty 4 is a shooter done right in every aspect. its going to be hard to pull people away from cod4 in 08 until maybe summer.

i dont know if turok can pull it off.

COD4 is the shit but for some reason i'm back to playing halo 3 and cant stop.

not for me, i was able to drop halo like it was nothing. not that i was a fan to begin with.

ut3 i dont mind, its light years ahead of halo. but if i had to pick ut3 or cod4 its cod4 all the way

i dont know if turok can pull it off.

Turok was never much of a strategic game from what I can remember.

The levels were way too big, and had tedious platform jumping puzzles.

It was fun to play for a week or 2 just to because it looked cool, then lost all its fun factor.

After Goldeneye 64 came out it was a wrap, this was all you heard.---> ("Huh, Turok? What's that?")

I say to Turok.....

"BOO THIS GAME.... BOOoOoOoOooo!!!!!"

I play both games alot. Halo 3 is still the best multiplayer on the console. It is very easy to pick up and play with anyone, I have a lot of fun playing this game with friends. 2 completely different multiplayer games.

I'm pretty sure (drawing from no statistics and pulling this straight outta my ass) that COD4 has murdered Halo 3 since it came out, and has probably out done Halo3's total numbers it in the same time span since it's on 3 differnet systems (I'm counting pc since that's what I play it on):dance:

I see this and all I see is a slow boring ass game, and I was a huge H2 fan on the X-Box. I actually think they slowed the run down a little bit in H3. COD4 changes the landscape of FPS games, period. VEGAS 2 will HAVE to take some cues or they won't sell 500 copies. Bungie invested it's energy and resources on some silly ass gimmick instead in what gamers actually want out of their games. Amazing gameplay and amazing graphics and COD4 FUCKING DELIVERS. Bungie just rehashed the same weapons and the same graphics from H2, lazy bitches. The replay feature is tight though, I'll give them that but COD4 counters w/ KILLCAM:dance:! They really found that sweet spot
