Cacs Cacing on ESPN: Introducing (probably) the NEW Skip Bayliss...Will Cain listen to this asshole

Will Cain is auditioning to replace Skip Bayless on First Take, and he's wasting little time in proving he can be just as hateable as his predecessor. Reacting to LeBron James' post-Finals Instagram post directed at his haters, Cain is upset about the fact that LeBron sometimes used incorrect grammar.

Here's what LeBron posted:

They said u lost a step, wasn't explosive as once was, the best days was in the real view, questioned your drive, your leadership, your commitment, you don't have killer instinct, going back home is the worst mistake in your career, he got the coach fired, players traded, won't work between him and Kyrie, Him and Kev won't work, love your teammates to much, there's no way he can deliver a championship in his hometown, etc etc etc.... But guess what THATS NONE OF MY BUSINESS #StriveForGreatness #ThisOneIsForTheLand #PutSomeRespeckOnMyName Hahahaha!!! Yes sir

Typing out full paragraphs of thought on your phone is pretty hard – if I ever have more than a sentence to say to someone, I just call them – and I think most people are willing to give each other a pass on the occasional misspelled word. But if the thing you want to say about LeBron winning his third NBA title is that he used incorrect grammar on Instagram, well ... I don't really know what to say to you.

But Cain stumbles heedlessly upon a bigger issue handled eloquently by J.A. Adande, writing for the The Undefeated about the folly of "cleaning up" athlete quotes for print.

I want to see flawed quotes, in all of their glory, presented without fear of backlash. If Kevin Durant leaves out a letter of an indefinite article when disparaging an owner or Brazilian Leandro Barbosa uses broken English during a postgame interview, it could end up being the best part of the series — as long as they are allowed to truly speak for themselves ...

For one, it’s patronizing, with the implication that anything that deviates from the norm is inherently inferior and must be corrected. Black English, for example, isn’t a referendum on intelligence — it’s a reflection of centuries of segregation, just as American English is a linguistic representation of our country’s split from Britain. Passing judgment based on speech can often say more about the listener than the speaker. (Do we consider Yoda any less wise because of his mixed-up syntax?)

As the hourglass in Skip Bayless’s tenure at First Take dwindles to its final specs of sand, The Big Lead has learned that ESPN has whittled its succession plan down to three names: Max Kellerman, Jorge Sedano, and Will Cain. An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment.

Kellerman appears to be management’s first choice and the job is therefore his to turn down. However, Kellerman has good gigs – SportsNation with Michelle Beadle and Marcellus Wiley, a local radio show with Wiley, and HBO boxing (which is usually a quick to commute to Vegas) – in Los Angeles. Though he grew up on the East Coast, it goes without saying that the weather is nicer where he is now.

(One thing to keep an eye on is maybe First Take moves from Bristol to New York in a year or two? Filming in New York instead of Connecticut would presumably make the job more enticing for Kellerman, Stephen A., and many others.)

Furthermore, jumping to First Take from where he’s at is a little bit risky. Right this second, First Take is a higher profile property than SportsNation. However, SportsNation has a pretty well-defined viewership floor in the afternoon block of the main network. It’s not an absolute certainty that First Take maintains its entire audience on ESPN2 when Skip Bayless is not only gone, but programmed directly against it on FS1. (No, Bayless will not come close to competing with First Take’s metrics at least in the near term, but concern about him chipping away at the margins would be justified.)

If you watch ESPN with regularity, you know Stephen A. Smith is Everywhere. He’s embedded in all sorts of programming directly attached to the network’s core NBA and NFL coverage. While this is probably a net positive for First Take viewership because it boosts his Q Rating, it also means that a lot of the heavy lifting in show preparation falls on the co-host. This eventually grew onerous for Skip Bayless.

It’s been well-documented that ESPN is in Moneyball mode. The list of exits, whether for money or other reasons, includes Bayless, Keith Olbermann, Bill Simmons, Colin Cowherd, Mike Tirico, Jason Whitlock, and soon Chris Berman. Can the salary Kellerman would require to take the risk/reward and the climate downgrade to move back East mesh with Bristol’s budgetary constraints?

And so there’s a contingency plan. Jorge Sedano and Will Cain will both have what are essentially tryout dates opposite Stephen A. Smith in July. Smith will otherwise mostly be off the program in between Skip’s last date, which is either tomorrow or MondayTuesday pending NBA Finals results, and Labor Day; the show will air in the interim with a rotating cast of guest hosts. Richard Deitsch had Kellerman and Cain pegged as candidates the day ESPN announced Bayless was gone.

Currently, Sedano co-hosts a national ESPN radio show with Israel Gutierrez; he’s been appearing on SportsCenter a decent bit recently and has pinch hit on many of the network’s radio and television programs when regular hosts are out. Cain joined ESPN from CNN in March of last year, hosts the Will & Kate Show with Kate Fagan on ESPN Radio on Sunday mornings, and has previously appeared on First Take and His & Hers.

He's on FirstTake now complaining about Lebron cursing during his parade speech

PH, i said it a while back when we found out Skip was leaving.... If you think he was bad... wait until if they replace him with Cain... The biggest difference is Cain isnt a trolling piece of shit and ratings genius... He actually believes everything he says and thinks he knows everything about everything.. Hes a certified rightwing texas cac and insecure bigoted prick.

I was watching him live and I chalked it up to "smart ass white boy talk". What that means to me is, every time a brother is superior to a white boy in athletics, the white boy immediately starts looking for areas where thinks he is better to make himself feel superior. In other words, LeBron maybe the best in basketball and a superior physical specimen, but he is not as smart as me, I don't have shit but I'm better than him. They do it every time.

He would be worst than skip because he is trolling a mans intelligence. Skip in my opinion was putting on an act and was mostly arguing athletic accomplishments.

JMHO - HNIC

Thats exactly who he is... Only thing is, unlike Skip, he isnt trolling... He is serious as cancer.

Max Kellerman would be my first choice. As an interviewer he is engaging and more relatable to the average man. He doesn't come off as phony or annoying as most sports analyst.

Yours Truly...... Professor

I actually like that guy.

well after just now watching Lebrons parade speech he was right because it was laced with motherfucker, fuck, shit and ass comments.

yeah...

I can't defend the king on that one...

it was a tad excessive..one of two...ok

but that could be legitimately labeled profanity laced.

but this dude Cain has a LONG track record of saying suspect sh*t for while so...

f*ck him

First Take was unwatchable today. SA would not let any guest speak more than 2 sentences. Skip always made him listen to his opinion before he would let him respond. SA is just yelling the entire show. Whoever they get needs to strong enough to make him shut up some to make the show watchable again.

Stephen A feels as if its HIS show now, so he's gonna feel he do/say whatever he wants. The show won't be on much longer

Who is this clown on first take..the cac with the wack ass blue suit..get this fool outta here!!!!!

54 years with no championship....real men of Ohio can understand and appreciate that speech.

And to top it off what do you think they was saying about LeBron after the decision? No profanity used I'm sure

They all put on an act, it's their job. Sports TV debates aren't anything different from reality TV. Anybody that replaces Skip will be paid to be similar to how Skip was.

Can't win for losing..that speech was dedicated to the people of Cleveland and true Cavalier fans..it wasn't for outsiders..so curse your heart out LBJ.. and fuck these haters.. I've stated that I ain't a huge LeBron fan and I don't jump on bandwagons but he deserves some respect for what he just accomplished and mf's down playing his speech..damn bruh..you just can't win...

Machine is always looking for the next replacement to agitate better than the previous.

Max Kellermen is that dude. Very professional and well versed in his commentary surrounding sports. He knows how to make the connection with the sports and athletes and what the people are thinking.

LJ is a basketball player and not a school teacher. SO if he misspells a word or two or uses incorrect grammar but we understand completely what he was saying...then I'm not mad at him. If all this clown can pick on is grammar and vocabulary, then let us examine george w bush. This man's language is horrible. He has never pronounced the word nuclear correct in his eight years. Trump is a 5th grade speaker and not good at what he professes to be his value, running successful businesses. LJ is REALLY good at basketball - the thing that he does for a living.
This dude can go fuck himself.
