Colts owner Jim Irsay hands out $100 bills to fans at camp
There were some happy campers Saturday in Anderson, Indiana.
That's because Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay showed up in a rather generous mood and was passing out $100 bills at random to fans who had come to watch the NFL team practice.
One theory put forth by Pro Football Talk is that Irsay may be trying to bolster his assertion that he frequently carries large amounts of cash. In June, Irsay showed off a briefcase of $100 bills while being interviewed by a newspaper reporter.
Irsay, of course, was found in possession of $29,000 in cash when police arrested him March 16 for operating a vehicle under the influence. Police also confiscated a bag that contained prescription drugs not in his name.
"What's been reported out there, there's been a sensationalizing about things that have nothing to do with the law. It shouldn't be an issue."
Irsay has an Aug. 28 trial date for two misdemeanor charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 60 days in jail if convicted.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had not yet handed down a decision on Irsay's punishment.

"You're talking about someone who is extremely generous, and I say that humbly," Irsay said. "That's the way I try to live my life and it has nothing to do with the law.
