Stories like this reminds me of the NYC I grew up in. Damn I miss those days. White people knew their place and got the fuck off the up town trains by 86th street in Manhattan.

After a run of bad luck brought him to Brooklyn, artist Marc Faust bought a scratch-off lottery ticket hoping for a better future — and might pay with his life.

Faust, 66, remained in a coma Thursday with brain damage and only dim hopes of survival after he was beaten to a bloody pulp by a homeless man following a staredown in the victim’s local bodega.

“The doctor said if by a slim chance he survives he’ll be in a nursing home," Lee Renner said of her former husband and business partner. "He’ll never be the same. Too much brain damage.”

Faust suffered “substantial brain leak and is unlikely to recover any significant brain function,” prosecutors said at his alleged attacker’s arraignment Thursday in Brooklyn Criminal Court.

The ex-wife, 63, and their son told the Daily News that Faust, who was briefly homeless after his 2013 divorce and had trouble finding a market for his artwork, relocated from New Jersey to Brooklyn about 18 months ago.

“Mark had a really hard time emotionally, so it was tough for him," said Renner. “He was struggling. He was trying to get a job, see if he could sell his art.”

Renner and Faust were partners in a New Jersey business for 22 years until their divorce, doing restoration work that included carpentry and installation of stained and etched glass. Faust’s website describes his current work as “modern abstract geometric art” and he was an art major at William Paterson University in New Jersey.

“He’s very talented,” said Renner. “He does computer imaging, prints and such.”

Suspect Jason “Kai Kai” Jacobs, 24, allegedly knocked the much older man to the ground and delivered a vicious beating about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The attack was caught on video, prosecutors said at Jacobs’ arraignment. Faust was about to walk away from the confrontation when Jacobs punched him to the ground, then continued pummeling him, prosecutors said.

Faust suffered a broken nose, fractured facial bones and severe head trauma, with pools of his blood left on the sidewalk outside the Food Corp. Deli on Rogers and Clarkson Aves. in Prospect-Lefferts Garden.

Paramedics performed chest compressions on Faust when they found he had no pulse.

Jacobs was arrested a few blocks from the deli a short time after the incident.

Two days after the crime, family members heard nothing to inspire optimism about Faust’s future.

Faust’s son recalled that his dad sounded upbeat when they briefly spoke on the phone for the last time four days ago.

“He was going out to get a job. He was going to turn his life around," said the son. "He was on the phone (when attacked), so he was probably talking to an employer.”

According to Renner, Faust’s brother-in-law heard from doctors about the victim’s grim condition during a Thursday visit to the intensive care unit at Kings County Hospital.

“He said Marc was unrecognizable,” said Renner.

Jacobs was ordered held on $300,000 bond or $150,000 cash.

At the time he allegedly attacked Faust, Jacobs was free on bail over an eerily similar attack just a block away from the deli. In that case, he allegedly smashed a 56-year-old man in the face with a dresser drawer that had been left outside with the garbage in March. That case is still pending.

Jacobs has a total of five previous arrests, mostly for marijuana possession and criminal trespass, sources told The News.

Much of Faust’s artwork remains inside his one-room apartment, which was sealed by cops after the attack, according to roommate Colin Budhi.

“I feel bad,” he told The News. “It was sad, knowing that a younger guy beat up an old person.”

According to sources, the assault came after Faust was waiting behind Jacobs to buy the lottery ticket inside the bodega. Jacobs became angry when Faust asked him to hurry up with his order and allegedly attacked him.

“Street fights are always decided by who’s the nuttiest," Faust’s son lamented.

White people should know their place? I guess the kid knows his place and its going to be in a cell probably for the rest of his life. Guess he showed him :dunno:

Yes. I grew up in this racist segregated city where grown ass fucking wops would chase and harass kids going to and coming from school. Growing up everyone knew where to go and when to go there and where it was definitely not safe to be in certain areas where there were white people. An environment created by white people. So when one of them gets murdered in the hood I say fuck them. They should have known their fucking place.
