Report: Isiah Out As Knicks' Coach
April 17, 2008 - 12:21 pm
New York Daily News -
The New York Daily News reported Thursday that Isiah Thomas was told last week that he would not return as the team’s coach.

According to the newspaper, new President Donnie Walsh could make an announcement as early as Thursday. Despite two disastrous seasons on the bench, Thomas is hoping to remain with the organization in a lesser capacity.

I have always been a big zeke fan....the way he played, the heart, the passion, the emotion, but when he ended his playing days, he should have just, as mike tyson so eloquently put it once, "faded into bolivia".....certain players just dont cut it as coaches, analysts, and gms.....magic is my favorite player of all time, but when he was workin for NBC, it was BRUTAL....he has gotten a lil better in his stint on tnt with charles and kenny...but with all that said, isaiah just isnt a good coach or gm

It won't make a difference. Knicks won't be better until they cure that infection they have.

One question: What exactly has Walsh achieved in his 20-something years in Indy??

Before you answer, keep in mind that I go back to the ABA years and remember Walsh from then

One question: What exactly has Walsh achieved in his 20-something years in Indy??

That's the same question I asked in another thread a while back. What has Walsh done that meritted the high praise he was getting as a GM and the recommendation from David Stern?

Indiana was probably the most roguish organization in the NBA the past 5 years as far as players getting in trouble off the court. Players getting into bar fights, players shooting guns in the air in public areas, players hiding out fugitives wanted for 1st degree murder at their homes. All under Donnie Walsh's watch.

No championships in what, 30 + years of being a GM?

1 time having the best record in the NBA?

I just don't understand how he got so much praise to take over the Knicks (other than being white) and he hasn't accomplished anything of significance, at least in my opinion.

Maybe someone can explain it :dunno:

I was so happy to hear this yesterday. But this is only the first step that needs to take place. It is a start though, a pretty good one.

I'm happy to see him go. They suck! He's wasn't making them any better, And his sissy ass demeanor did'nt help shit. All that "I'm from Chicago I'll fight till I die" shit was corny. What, are you trying to show the people how gansta you are. We don't give a shit! You came here, because you said you could make a losing team better. You haven't! But you have succeed to bring more ridicule to an already ridiculous situation. The players don't respond to you. The fans don't like you. It's time to go. Peace! Take your money and run. Hey, Chicago needs a basketball coach. You're the hometown boy. Maybe they'll be impressed with your "fight 'til I die" attitude. I don't care how you fight. I just want the team to win. If Donnie Walsh can't get it done, then maybe James Dolan will realize that he is the problem not the coaches.

Getdefuckouttahere, Zeke!

Isiah Fired As Head Coach
April 18, 2008 - 5:27 pm
AP -
Isiah Thomas has been fired as the head coach of the New York Knicks .

"I just believe a new voice, a new coach, is necessary to change the direction of the team," said Donnie Walsh.

Thomas is 187-223 as an NBA coach during his tenures in Indiana and New York.

Mark Jackson is the leading candidate to become the Knicks' new coach.

Knicks Closing In On Mark Jackson

Yahoo! -
An NBA executive familiar with Donnie Walsh’s plans said late Thursday night that Mark Jackson has emerged as the Knicks' leading head coach candidate.

Jackson’s hiring, the NBA source said, would be followed with Walsh reaching out to Patrick Ewing to be a part of the coaching staf

Jermaine A Possibilty For Knicks?
April 18, 2008 - 5:14 pm
New York Post -
Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal might be a short-term possibility for the Knicks this offseason, according to the New York Post.

Donnie Walsh would prefer that the Knicks became a playoff team while he works on clearing out cap space over the next two years, similar to the quick rebuilding job he did in Indiana after their Finals appearance in 2000.

The Pacers and Larry Bird might be willing to take on some expiring contracts, specifically Stephon Marbury, to cut costs in exchange for O'Neal.

Good.

We don't want him.

He's not a leader. He was good when RM was leading but he doesn't want to have that leader tag on him. Bounce. Good riddance.

And for you anti Donnie Walsh people. That man collected an abundance of talent to a mid market franchise.

That man collected an abundance of talent to a mid market franchise.

I.E:

Reggie Mills (goat shooter)
Detlef Schrempf
Davis brothers
Pooh Richardson
Jamal Tinsley
JO (punk)
Danny Granger
Jalen Rose
Rik Smits

ETC.

We just ran into some prolific, big market franchises at our peek. The Pacer fan base is pleased with our success in the NBA. Sure, we would like a championship but it's hard. Ask Milwaukee.

You're lucky to get Donnie Walsh. He will be missed.

This argument would have more merit if you were talking about a shorter period of time, but Walsh was in Indiana over 20 years.

If you go back 20-something years form the time Walsh was in charge of the Pacers, the Milwakee Bucks DID win a championship. In fact, they won 2 of them.

Besides, NBA franchises weren't always thought of in terms of Big market vs small markets. Not when it came to putting talent on the floor. During Walshes tenure, "small" markets teams such as Portand, Seattle and Golden State all won titles. And Phoenix almost won as well

And what kind of market is San Antonio??

Good point.

But personnel wise, he'll have y'all up there in no time.

And I disagree with you on that "small market" issue. In the years we were contenders, we lost to Detroit, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
