Buying a used truck

Man, 12-15 year old trucks going for $20k-$25k?!

I'm talking GMC 2500 HD, FORD F-250, 4DR, 4WD... with power windows.

Gas or Diesel.

I blame cash for clunkers! Took all the used vehicles off the market, now it's forcing people to either keep what they already have, buy a beater on its last leg, or buy new & finance it.

I'm not tryna finance, but its looking like I don't have many options... even for a 10 year old truck. I don't wanna drop 20k cash.

But who the fuck is lending for a used truck over 5 years old?

Gas, Goes with American why ? Cause u can go to a junkyard and find parts. If u take care of the truck it will last.

Check the used car/truck mags at your local grocery spot. I see some decent vehicles and it being local nine times out of ten u can go look at said truck. Get a car fax and take a mechanic and kick the tires.

Financing breh I have no idea. Good luck with everything

If u go Merickan and u need parts

www.rockauto.com

they have parts from Honda to Bentley and everything in between based in Ohio reasonable also

Man I certainly feel your pain a... while back I was looking for a pick up 4 door leather it's got damn ridiculous what they asking for a 2012 king ranch with 140k miles on it. ....30k....I was like fuck that I'll save a Lil more ..

I assure you it won't be long before trucks are going to cost well over 100k....

I think the fact that they are better quality now and people keep them much longer

I saw a clear ass 2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali with 138k miles still going for 10gs

At one time I bought a 9 year old truck for $5000. It had every option I needed & wanted, 4x4, leather, leveling kit, V8, power everything, ext. cab.

It was my first truck. Clean as fuck

This the shit I'm talking about!
2006*GMC*SIERRA**2500**SLT**- $21999

Dodge.

If you ate going to go used, make sure it's less than 4 years old and under 148k miles so you can get the molar max care warranty which only dodge has and extends the warranty for the life of the truck. I have a 2010 1500 and a 2012 1500 both run great and I have never had an issue.

Unless you are towing shit all the time ain't no reason for a 2500. They don't offer anything of value and it just raises the price..

Diesel is the way to go if you go 2500, fuel mileage is insane and those diesel engines will outlast any gas motor mileage wise.

My recommendation is to ask yourself if you need the beefed up suspension and rear end that s basically the added cost to a 2500. If you don't need to toe 10k pounds on a daily basis you are better off with a 1500 and you will save some money

Yea, it's gonna be a work truck. I'll need to tow a trailer & 300 gallon skid sprayer (water weighs about 8.5 lbs/Gal), not consistently but enough.

Just like the 4x4, I live in ATL where it rarely snows but those 2-3 days a year it does snow, 4x4 is very necessary to get through them hills & ice.

If you have the money to buy it outright, are you comfortable enough to check out a truck on your own and look locally like on FB Marketplace?

I've been in the same boat as you looking for a pickup, finally did buy one from the dealer wholesale auctions. I have a friend with a dealer license that got it for me.

The trucks are mostly hit or something, BUT, you can do what I do and search for repos and get one that "runs and drives" with a clear title.

There's two main places, IAAI.com or CoPart.com

IAAI, you need a dealer license, CoPart allows regular public. You can go on their site and search the auction in your area, they are all over the country everywhere. Practically every city every single week.

As for a type of truck, I kinda prefer the Dodge Hemi's, they can tow and are reliable. Ford F-150 is also but the prices are crazy cause madd mofo's buy them in the south cause they are reliable. So they pay whatever.

I grew up doing mechanics with my step-dad, so I know my way around fixing stuff if need be, but personally I never step into any used car dealers, they buy all their cars from these auctions or whatever and jack the prices up. Plus what warranty do you get, 30 days, 90 days? Smh

I'm good, just not my thing. Wife buys new cars, but I just can't. Not when I look at the depreciation on them as they roll off the lot. Makes me cringe. I'm a black jew.

My Expedition was $5k when I bought it.....and it was an 05' with 99k miles.
You especially should know, you down here in Texas. An Expedition is not a pickup. These used pickups down here, prices are crazy. SUV is way diff in these country mofo's minds compared to a pickup.

Air bags.

You can buy them and install them yourself or get them installed, won't cost more than a 1k. I pull my boat and trailer it's bout 2800 lbs, i domt what it is when its caryimg water. The air bags help to balance the load and give the truck and trailer better ride. No matter what you buy, get airbags if it's a 1500. A 2500 should have leaf springs, you wouldn't need the airbags. Both my dodges are 4x4 .chexk out cargurus.com around your area.

I think it’s a regional thing but yeah pick ups in the south and mid west going for top dollar... everyone wants them shits lol

You'd probably pay half that at auction. 2006, many dealers don't bid on those being that old. They go after later models like 2010 and up and just put a sticker up showing the (great credit) monthly payment and not the actual price of the car.

yeah shit 10k and under,....i'd just pay cash for.
save the payments for big shit.

True but some nerds say only a truck has a bed

If the bed is the factor then that would include the Avalanche and Explorer Sport.

The days of SUVs using the same chassis or body on frame like a truck is getting numbered.
Expeditions and Suburbans used to be "trucks based". Have not looked at specs lately tho.

That trucks are costing so much on the used market is some f*ck sh*t.
Hope you get a deal OP.

For those that want trucks with beds over SUVs, what is the appeal?
Do you use the bed more often? Does anyone put camper tops on trucks
anymore?

Back in the 80s, before SUV craze, the trucks I admired the most was those with toppers

They are still being sold
Same model, newer version

For me, I didn't want to be "the guy with the truck", because as soon as someone knows you
can haul stuff, you will be called all the time to haul stuff

Yea, I use the bed all the time, even if I didn't it's good to have that option. Ever need a truck & have to rely on somebody else? :smh:

To your last point, I make em pay! Or say "No" :hmm:

I know you can't be in the south. I lived in NYC majority of my life, moved to TX a decade ago. Was a a bit of a culture shock to see everyone and they grandma driving pickups. Literally

You can drive thru neighborhoods and see almost every house with at least one to three pickups typically in front of a house. For years I said I'd never conform, but fell into a biz where now I literally can't really do without.
