Burger King reported US same-store sales grew 5% at the end of 2022, but some franchisees are struggling.

  • Franchisee Meridian Restaurants Unlimited is closing 27 Burger King locations in the US.
  • The closures mainly impact stores in Utah and Minnesota, but are spread across seven states.
  • Another Burger King franchisee, EYM King of Michigan said it will close 26 locations last month.

Burger King franchisee Meridian Restaurants Unlimited is closing 27 restaurants across seven states, including in its home state of Utah.

Meridian operates over 100 Burger King locations. It is the latest franchisee to announce it will shutter restaurants this year. EYM King of Michigan said in March it is closing all 26 locations in the state, citing a failure to come to terms with the fast-food chain on a new deal.

Meridian said in court filing that while it is unlikely it will close a significant amount of its Burger King locations, it is leaving open the possibility of more closures in the future, Restaurant Business first reported.

The Burger King operator filed for bankruptcy in March because of low sales and high inflation, among other factors. Another Burger King franchisee, TOMS King Holdings, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January for similar reasons.

While some of its franchisees struggle, Burger King is showing early signs of a turnaround. The chain last reported same-store sales in the US grew by 5% at the end of last year. Last fall, the brand unveiled its "reclaim the flame" plan, which involves investing $400 million into marketing and remodeling top restaurants.

looks like white people don't like burger king
but i have to say that the burgers don't taste flame broiled anymore
nor do you have that flame broiled smell around them either
They haven't changed the process.... maybe you're just used to it.... I still smell it.... and can see them when they do it..... frozen burgers are put on a conveyor belt, go through the broiler flames and pop out the other side :dunno:

.

The only reason they are still around is because they have the army contract.
There is at least one on every base.
And they have had it at least 40 years.
Don't know about other military installations

90% of BK's old as hell/poorly managed/ghetto af. Last time I went there mf said they didn't have any ice. wtf?
Once every five or six months I get a taste for that flame broil..... bought that plant burger a couple of times, wasn't bad.... but the cost..... I'll stick with real beef..... but I won't go to the ghetto ass ones closest to me.... I'll drive the four miles to the one in West Orange
sidebar: McDonald's burgers been like trash lately.... like they been sitting under the heat lamps too long, even when they're made freash

No way.... that's their signature way.... I had to Google it just to be 100% sure..... it will never.... happen man

Yes, Burger King burgers are flame-grilled. Burger King uses an open flame grill to cook burgers, heated to around 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The burgers are placed on a conveyor belt that carries them through the grill, and as they pass through, flames lick the meat, giving it a distinctive smoky flavor.

Mainly Firehouse subs or Arby's if I don't cook.
I don't have either close enough to me...... If I had other reasons to go to something close to them though..... Arby's been kind of fucking me up with the commercials for their shit.... beeen wanting to try them out

maybe my childhood/early memories are deceiving me cause the burgers seemed better before

I work there.
so nothing has changed burger wise in how long
i remember there used to be smoke coming from the broilers all the time
not so much anymore, has the broilers changed design
Bk and DQ used to be my favorite burgers due to that flame-broiled taste
i will admit i don;t eat fast food very often now days
and when i do i eat off the budget menu
the flagship and special burgers at all joints are ridiculously priced now
i wish there were more Mr. Dan's around

I like Burger King, mind you I rarely eat fast food burgers or burgers in general but I like them.

As was already stated, many are poorly ran and the workers don't care about their job or the food. But that's not Burger King exclusive.

I work there.
They send you to that Burger King University in Florida too? Years ago, that was the job that I had before the Fire Dept, they would send the hard-core serious about Burger King employee there when I was an Asst. Manager... I think that when you plan on opening a franchise, they send you there for a few weeks too

Not sure about the one you used to visit. Broilers are now in the BACK of many stores. Customers don't wanna see it or smell it.
They used to be flame broiled and there is one in the area that still is but they changed mine to a laser broiler.
It is because there would be grease fires and they kids are too dumb to follow instructions. Shit I cause 2 minor fires fucking around.
The laser broiler is MAD HOT though and can kill you. The marks on the burgers you see now are laser beams.
No lie.
