A class action lawsuit has been filed against Burger King after a group of vegans found issue with the vegan burgers being cooked on meat-smeared grills, according to TMZ.

Phillip Williams filed the lawsuit Monday, according to court documents obtained by TMZ, and he claims the vegan burger he purchased at an undisclosed Atlanta location was contaminated by meat byproduct. The lawsuit reportedly states the fast food giant is falsely advertising its burgers as a vegan option.

Williams is requesting damages and that the burger chain uphold a moratorium on cooking the Impossible Whoppers on the same grills as meat, TMZ reported.

Controversy about the cooking standards for the wildly popular Impossible Whoppers was sparked in August, when Burger King first began the nationwide rollout of the sandwiches. At the time, online pundits began outing Burger King for cooking the vegan alternative sandwiches on the same grill as chicken and beef.

Customers can request their Impossible Burgers be grilled on a different broiler than meat, according to a CNBC report in August. Some vegan and vegetarians at the time said they were not aware that was an option.

The plant-based vegan patty — made of water, plant proteins, coconut oil and heme, a natural molecule that gives burgers their distinctive taste and is found in plants — is designed to look and taste like a traditional red meat burger, the AJC reported in 2017. California-based Impossible Foods has received more than $250 million in financial backing from Bill Gates, venture fund Temasek and several other businesses and celebrities.

Lol my thing is did people really think burger king spend millions of dollars on separate grills for those vegan burgers? The truth is many places share same grills or pots with certain foods especially if it's not known for being a specialty restaurant... So for all you non pork eaters know that pig product was more likely mixed somewhere in your food if pork is at the spot..dirty lil secrets at resturants

I don't get it. If you're a so-called vegan, why would you eat at a place with the word "burger" in its name? I don't care what they say the burger is made of. If I don't eat pork, and Bob's Pork Emporium announces that they're coming out with an all beef frank, I'm STILL not going there to eat.

This heme iron that Impossible Foods put in the patties gives it the taste more meat eaters expect in a burger. A vegan may not know heme iron is a component of red meat.

Burger King never claimed it was vegan or even vegetarian. They only say that it is made from plants and does not contain meat. That's their wiggle room. A vegan would pay attention to those details. At least the ones I know are pressed like that.

I've been vegetarian for nearly 20 years. IMO this is bullshit.

Burger King only claimed that the actual burgers were vegan, not the manner in which they were prepared. If a customer wanted to know if they used a completely separate grill and utensils they should have asked.

Personally, I really don't care. As long as it's not made out of meat it's good enough for me.

It depends on why you don't eat pork. If it's for strict religious reasons I'd see your point. If it's because of the flavor or because pork is full of sodium then it really wouldn't matter.

I'm vegetarian because meat was causing digestion issues that are too disgusting to get into. A dead cow microbe grazing my food was never that problem so I really don't care.

For anyone who would revoke my veg pass over this. It's dinner, not church.

Wait, are they really cooking the burgers on the meat grills. They minus whale start handing out the money now and shut that shit down until they get vegan only stations. The meat grease probably what making those things sell.
Burger King never advertised it as a Vegan burger. It is just a plant based burger
