The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade quarterback Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

As part of the trade, the Browns will trade their sixth-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for San Francisco's picks in the fifth and seventh rounds.

The trade agreement was earlier reported by CBSSports.com.

McCoy started 21 games for the Browns in three seasons.

He became expendable last week when the Browns signed veteran backup Jason Campbell, who is expected to challenge Brandon Weeden for the starting job.

The Browns selected McCoy in third round of the 2010 draft. He played in eight games as a rookie and started 13 in 2011 before his season was ended by a concussion.

McCoy went 6-15 as a starter and threw for 4,388 yards and 21 touchdowns with the Browns.

In San Francisco, the 26-year-old will compete with Scott Tolzien to back up Colin Kaepernick.

I didn't like Colt nor Sam out of college but Colt is a G. Kinda pulling for the kid to succeed.

I'm more surprised the Browns got something, a tidbit, out of him.

Good trade for the 49ers

Colt can now be groomed be real coaching and can be a solid backup/spot starter if needed

Dude was a quality player on a very shitty team. Who drafts a starter then a few years later drafts a player damn near 30. The Browns are ass of an organization.

5th and 7th and get a 6th and a backup.

jim is a guru for qb's he's proven as much so good pick up and we can still either draft someone late or just some picks for later.

:yes::yes:

Yeah and he handled that situation well too. But I believe they've drafted well recently.

They've had some shitty play at receiver. Little dropping passes left and right. Massaquoi is supposed to be a force at receiver IMO, fantasy league logic. And wack ass Edwards.

Colt may just be solid after all. We'll see.

Only makes sense because they picked up J.Campbell. Because Weeden is ass. I thought McCoy would eventually start over Weeden this year.
Campbell will probably get the start eventually, they are damn near the same age and Campbell has way more experience so they can sit Weeden with little controversy..Hopefully Campbell can finally find some stability. In Cleveland its unlikely though..:smh:

The browns just pick a name out of an hat, thats the way they draft. They obviously have never heard of scouting players.

why this trade is awesome

The 49ers entered today with a pair of fifth round picks, including their own at No. 164 and the Colts at No. 157. If these tweets ring true, they deal No. 164 and acquired the Browns No. 173 pick. The 49ers also have a pair of tradable seventh round picks (they cannot trade comp picks), so one of those two will go to Cleveland. That means the team deal two picks for one, with one of the two only resulting in a decline of nine spots. Not too shabby in my mind for a guy who can genuinely compete for the backup QB spot. And the 49ers still have 13 draft picks.

I don't think he is a NFL starter but he didn't really get a fair shake with the lack of quality weapons, coaching changes, and only 21 starts

Hey Browns fans. You guys don't like Thad Lewis. I tend to follow black QBs pretty hard. I have a few threads about black QBs in college I follow. I think the future is in your 3rd string QB Thad Lewis. He had a pretty good last game for his 1st NFL start. I watch that game, because I lost track of his career after Duke. I think he has the IQ to be a good QB. He just need more reps. I notice the Browns haven't cut him. I like the fact that he is sitting 3rd string and no pressure is on him. Maybe 2 years from now he could be starting.

Lewis holds his own in finale: Despite entering the game having never attempted an NFL pass, Browns quarterback Thaddeus Lewis did a decent job in Week 17 against the Steelers. Playing in place of injured starter Brandon Weeden, Lewis passed for 204 yards, while completing 22 of 32 attempts in the game. He threw a 7-yard touchdown to Greg Little in the third quarter, and was intercepted once, in a 24-10 loss. Lewis ran the ball one time, for 3 yards.

The Browns are just like fuck the QB position in 2013. They have a castoff and a "old" new player competing for the starting job.

We gave up our 5th & 7th rd picks.
Cleveland gave up their 6th rd pick.

Since Cleveland had a high 6th..... basically we slid down about nine spots from the end of the 5th to the top of the 6th, while giving up only a 7th rd pick.

I think we still have something like 12 more picks.
He will compete with Scott Tolzein for the backup spot.
Not bad Harbaugh & Balke.

:cool::cool::cool:

If only we could've landed Ed Reed or found a way to resign Goldson, this would have been a perfect off-season thus far

we weren't going to pay dashon 40 million bucks

and ed reed to my knowledge never even visited with us formally.

our scouts are tops and we have the picks to draft an impact safety ready to play by the season. we can move up or stay put but we'll get him. dashon was drafted in the 4th round. if we could find him then we can find his replacement now.
