The Bears and Brian Urlacher parted ways in March and now, two months later, the 13-year veteran has announced his retirement.

"After spending a lot time this spring thinking about my NFL future, I have made the decision to retire," Urlacher wrote Wednesday. "Although I could continue playing, I'm not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that's up to my standards. When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after 13-year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear.

"I want to thank all the people in my life that have help me along the way," Urlacher continued. "I will miss my teammates, my coaches, and the great Bears fans. I'm proud to say that I gave all of you everything I had every time I took the field. I will miss the great game, but I leave with no regrets."

Wtf,why couldn't he just wait it out until a squad loses a player?

Freeney got his chance but damn Brian had atleast two years left in him

HOF indeed,he defined Tampa 2

Not surprised...

He doesn't want to bounce from team to team.
Man please, no body wanted this washed up overrated muthafucka. He should have taken that meager deal the Bears offered and saved himself some face. Instead, he acted offended, undervalued and said he would seek a deal elsewhere. Well, he found out what most people outside of chicago already knew, he's done. And hes been done for about 3years now.

:smh::smh::smh: I can't even mess with a lot of y'all in this thread. It's obvious, that y'all collectively possess 1/10th the combined sports IQ of Skip Bayless, and Mike Greenberg.

Hall a famer?

I'd bet yes, but probably not first ballot.

He was one of THE seminal defenders of his era. The only contemporary you could make a case for playing the position better was Ray Lewis. The last few years, he clearly looked like a shell of his former self. The athleticism was waning, the smooth lateral movement wasn't what it used to be, but at his best, there wasn't anything like him. A 250 plus he could move like a defensive back.

i'm surprised the pats didn't sign him..they usually sign people on their last leg to get the last of what they have to offer

Shouldve took that deuce

Wish somebody would insult me with a 2 milli offer for half years work

Pats only sign guys that can still play. Considering that they ran a ton of traditional 4-3 sets last season, Urlacher would have been a good body to have on deck if they thought he could play a lick.

Why is it that so many of these vets thought this years free agency period was gonna be kind to them? We talked about it on here, as did every media outlet/analyst.... The money was going to be tight and only spent on younger top tiered talent.

These agents should have checked themselves, and their clients. Things sort of worked out for Freeney(he got about half the paper he wanted), but it's been a rough go for everyone else. Brian should have just signed the deal they were offering, and be done with it.

Dude was seriously elite for a period of time  but once was the injuries hit it was a rap. He was the centerpiece of all good Bear defenses during his time though. Not a Ray Lewis or Seau, but right underneath. He may get in late to the HOF

Yeah man ain't no big money in the NFL for non QBs in their 30s

Pride is a muthafucka though

Even if they hold out until guys get hurt the money isn't going to be there that's why you saw many vets just signing for what they can get

If you've ever played organized sports as an adult you usually know its time to walk away.

Yeah, I halfway expected this, actually two years ago.

It is totally understandable now.

What always surprised me is his speed from sideline to sideline.

I just never seen a big white boy fast and/or quick.

He was one in a million literally.

Exciting player, never really followed his stats. I won't say first ballot but I won't go as far to say not at all, either.

I'll miss him.

Liked watching him play.

don't be surprised if Ed Reed does the same. When you re that old had a few injuries throughout your career it is hard to play through the pain for a new team and fan base.
