Breaking News: Eric Cantor has said that he cannot support the bill because there are not enough spending cuts. The bill won't come up for a vote without amendments.

More info to come. This was per MSNBC. I am actually surprised. A bill that passed 89 to 8 in the Senate was not good enough for the Republican leadership to put up for a vote. They broke their promise that if a bill passed the Senate, then it would get a vote in the House. The President and the Senate called their bluff.

12:27 PM PT: Again Title on MSNBC now is Breaking News: House: Majority leader Cantor opposes fiscal cliff deal

12:30 PM PT: House says that they will amend the bill before it gets a vote. The Senate is in recess. If a compromise is not reached between the two houses by January 3, then the measure must wait until the new Congress is sworn in.
An amended bill will almost certainly not be accepted - the amendments that the House want will cause the bill to be rejected in the Senate.

12:33 PM PT: 37 of 40 members of House GOP reps who spoke, spoke against the bill.
A friend of Boehner who is a member said that the thought these people were living in an alternative universe (Russert - source , my paraphrase).
Russert also said that his sources indicate Reid will laugh at an amended bill. The friend also said that it would probably pass if Boehner put it to a vote.

12:35 PM PT: The leader and the Speaker said that the lack of spending cuts was a universal concern among their members.

12:36 PM PT: If it goes to the new Congress, they would have to start the legislative process all over again.

12:43 PM PT: the National GOP brand continues to circle the drain. However, all but 15 GOP House members are in districts President Obama lost. Their members are largely in safe very republican districts.

Boehner says that he would vote against the bill.

12:44 PM PT: La Tourette - it is heavy on tax increases and has no spending cuts.

However, that is simply false now. It is now purely a tax cut, primarily for the middle class.

12:45 PM PT: Russert: We are getting indications that the Senate will not even look at an amended bill.

12:45 PM PT: La Tourette, the bill passed 89 to 8.

12:46 PM PT: La Tourette - the majority of the majority would not support it, it would not even hit triple digits, probably 40 to 50.

12:47 PM PT: La Tourette- I am not worried if the House GOP gets the blame , I am in a safe district. (last part is a close paraphrase).

12:50 PM PT: Me - Bill passes 89 to 8 and it still won't be allowed a vote on the floor by Boehner. Wow !

12:56 PM PT: Dick Durbin said if the bill is amended, then the bill is killed.
Democratic Senate leaders: we are done.

1:00 PM PT: House GOP now owns the tax hikes on the middle class and the lack of extension of UI 100%. It is totally and completely theirs.

We are done now. Thank you House GOP, you may go now.

1:01 PM PT: Interesting watching mass public political suicide of national GOP.
Too bad there was collateral damage.

Fuck it. Lets jump on over that cliff and let them bishes come back whining when no aircraft carriers or tanks are being built in their districts or when no contributions are coming into their campaign coffers because their 1% friends are aging higher taxes.

Perfect for the Dems. that means all the rich rates go up now you can be selective about who get the breaks

If they couldn't even vote on one last week proposed by their own leader with income at a million why would they vote for this one?

:smh: Cutting off their heads to spite their faces :smh:

Come time for re-election for the GOP, people will remember what they did to them...(hopefully)

Not really, sadly what needs to happen is an education of the voting public. State houses and senates 1st must come under dem control so they can redraw the districts that repugs have been busy shaping to their advantage for the past 10 yrs:smh:

It really got worse after 2010.
Boehner needs to get his house (House) in order.

They stole political offices through redistricting. We get amped up over presidential and senate races...the real work is when the census comes out. They essentially fortified their position. Because of this, they are only worried about tea party candidates...thus they are moving right all the time. Remember when every republican candidate refused a 10 to 1 spending to tax cuts ratio during the debates? Look for more of that dumb shit.

The Republicans lost the white house by 5 million votes
The Republicans lost the Senate by 5 million votes
The Republicans lost sum total of House votes by 500 000 votes
The reason there are more of them in the House is because of redistriction, otherwise they do not represent the will of the people

Perfect example of this if my memory is correct is how Obama easily won the state of Pennsylvania, yet if you look at the members of the House from Pennsylvania, the overwhelming majority are Republicans.

The electorate failed to understand the true consequences of the 2010 midterms.

The republicans understood that they had no viable national candidate for 2012 (despite all the noise), but they wasted no time solidifying local districts for years to come.

But they do not give a fuck about none of that.

And Congress got a raise this year. Our tax dollars at work.

Got a raise and cut their work week.

Nope. Some people vote Repug regardless of how much they get fucked by them.

One thing I cannot stand about these new politicians since the BUSH 2 era is they fucking up the Game. Before Bush Jr. was elected politicians on both sides equally screwed us but left enough room for us to survive. Nowadays these hardcore MF"s dont even playing ball and willing to upright hurt people and do it in our faces. That's why even the GOP cannot stand these Tea Party members and it took two old friends (VP Biden and Senate Minority Leader McConnell) to jump in there and show them how it's done. You scratch my back, i'll scratch yours and we can both save face.

i knew this was gonna happen. mufuckas had a whole year to get this shit done. i dont know whether to be pissed off or sad for some people.

Cantor's gotta be one of the biggest assholes. He's still on that tea party shit. His goal during Obama's first term was simply to get the President out of office regardless of the economy.

Reducing government bureaucrats and the size of government, the better.

Yup!

Dudes redrew the lines so that their areas are OVERWHELMINGLY Republican, most won re-election with 60% or higher, some, like Boehner, ran unopposed!

I think that this is a rebuf from House Republicans on how Obama straight up threw them under the bus yesterday, he already had the win with them giving in to tax increases for peeps making over $400k, but then he had to rub their noses in it @ a press conference by stating that they said they wouldn't give in but now they finally did.

Why?

Remember that this is what we spoke about here on the board back in July 2011, when the Republicans went to the brink on the debt ceiling, didn't do anything to them then, won't do anything to them now.

I kinda knew that the house wasn't going to back this bill up..:smh::smh:

this shit is cazy for real..but they are the ones that going to get hurt badly with this..

Cause fuck them - sometimes you need to call out weakness. Don't let foxnews try to twist shit. They called him arrogant and uppity - but McConnell called the country center right. Republicans got spending cuts with no damn tax cuts last time. Threatened to end payroll tax holiday over tax cuts. They have routinely claimed the high ground even after losing in 2008. Their entire agenda was to make sure he doesn't have a second term. Now that he won by 5 million votes... and damn near 80 electoral votes...they are still talking about repealing the affordable health care act and refused any tax increases.

Folks called Obama weak...now they get mad when he says fuck you. He simply tilted the playing field. Bush repealed Clinton's tax rates. It's like changing field position. Republicans had the power because its always hard to move from lower tax rates. Now obama is saying - you want lower spending? Cool - let's look at taxes. Let's look at defense spending. Let's look at corporate loopholes...not always social security, medicare, and education.

So I join the president in saying fuck you republicans. You fucked up and gave this ninja a second term. He has the political capital - but he is not gonna say it - he is gonna prove it. The olive branch president is gone. No more extending your hand and they slap it down and call for your birth certificate. All these ninjas respect is pressure..so pressure it is. And when its time to compromise - he is gonna take his pound of flesh.. you realize these ninjas had the nerve to tout how they were simply thinking about raising taxes (like it was asking them to change religions).

This has to be wrapped up by noon on Thursday or it falls to the next Congress to resolve. Let's see what happens tomorrow. Once they see how the stock market feels about things still being in limbo, we'll see how serious the House is about getting a deal done.

They are expected to vote on the bill hopefully sometime around 11:30-12 (although I'd enjoy it if it were sooner). If this NIU-FSU game turns out to be a dud, I'm turning straight to C-SPAN for the coverage.

LOL, trust, I agree with you 100%, the BS coming from Repubs about Obamacare is garbage, that ish is over and done with, but he already gave in by moving the number to $400k when he was re-elected using $250k so BOTH sides moved, as they should, but why gloat if you already have the win, especially when you gave in as well?!?

That's like a boxer screaming that he's gonna knock his opponent out in the first round, but then wins a tough split decision and brags about it.

Why?!?

8:02 p.m. ET - The House will vote Tuesday night on a Senate bill - an up or down vote without amendments - to avert the fiscal cliff, a senior House GOP leadership aide told CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash.

It's about the President playing the perception game. By going to the public with the sense that the parameters of the deal were all but agreed to he's daring them to not take the deal and have to face the public. A public that knows that a sensible deal was on the table. He wins either way.

If it gets resolved now it's over and onto the next fight. If they balk and leave it on the table when the deal gets brought up the next time he can take the threshold back down to $250K and blame it on them being ungrateful. The Republicans want to keep acting like hostage takers in budget negotiations. You have to be creative when dealing with characters like that. This is being creative.

What time tonight are they voting?

Is this Obama's fault :hmm:

"The House has just begun debate on the bipartisan fiscal cliff deal struck in the Senate. Lawmakers will debate the bill for the next hour and then are expected to take a roll-call vote on the measure."

I'm gonna ignore your 2nd question

Understood, but the public's not voting on the bill, the people he dissed are.

And they've already shown they don't give a fuck.

Worse, their districts are actually backing them on this maneuver, if they didn't, they wouldn't be there now.

Trust, I understand why he wanted to do what he did, but to me the time to do it would be AFTER the bill was signed!

I cant take it anymore...WHY is any1 buying into this bullshyt...ever heard of quantitative easing..means they just print all the phukn $$$ they want/Big Banks need...if U can jus print all u want and charge it to the sheeple WHERE IS THE NEWS HERE??
