I understand the sub-culture which spawned Rap and Hip-Hop and whatever you want to call the African American Sub-Culture in North America. I understand the "message bringers" that go all the way back to the african oral traditions that pre-date slavery. I get the fact that This Sub-Culture exists to fly in the faces of the status quo. The elite, and those who would wish things to remain the same. But I've stopped listening to it (from a supportive buying the artists records and tapes and cd's and also on iTunes) now my only exposure is radio, casual passerby in their cars and the occassional party. And frankly, its the same message. The only difference is the hook, or the melody. The "Man" has defeated it by purchasing it and just put the message on constant repeat. There is NOBODY talking about how it can be changed (unless I am just too out of it to know about them.)
