Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood.
Dylan was in Long Branch, about a two-hour drive south of New York City, on July 23 as part of a tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp that was to play at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood.

A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification, Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley said Friday.

"I don't think she was familiar with his entire body of work," Woolley said.

The incident began at 5 p.m. when a resident said a man was wandering around a low-income, predominantly minority neighborhood several blocks from the oceanfront looking at houses.

The police officer drove up to Dylan, who was wearing a blue jacket, and asked him his name. According to Woolley, the following exchange ensued:

"What is your name, sir?" the officer asked.

"Bob Dylan," Dylan said.

"OK, what are you doing here?" the officer asked.

"I'm on tour," the singer replied.

A second officer, also in his 20s, responded to assist the first officer. He, too, apparently was unfamiliar with Dylan, Woolley said.

The officers asked Dylan for identification. The singer of such classics as "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Blowin' in the Wind" said that he didn't have any ID with him, that he was just walking around looking at houses to pass some time before that night's show.

The officers asked Dylan, 68, to accompany them back to the Ocean Place Resort and Spa, where the performers were staying. Once there, tour staff vouched for Dylan.

The officers thanked him for his cooperation.

"He couldn't have been any nicer to them," Woolley added.

How did it feel? A Dylan publicist did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Friday.

the reason I said racially profiled is that if you read the article it stresses "mostly minority low income neighborhood" so to me, the cops thought he was there up to no good, whether they thought he was there to do racist shit or get drugs, who knows but they stopped him because he was white walking around the hood and it tickles me to finally see a whiteboy get it

the article didn't say the race of the cops :dunno:

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

he didn't get "racially" profiled, he got profiled for looking like a homeless bum...dylan has always looked like that, this ain't the 60's anymore...

could be correct I just thought it was cause he was a whiteboy walking around the hood

He ain't no "boy." More like a confused looking grandpa. He was homelessly profiled.

(BTW, he does have a child with a black woman.)

How the FUCK do you get racially profiled when you're white and wandering around in a town that's nearly 70% white. Explain that to me you dumbass, bigirl.

why did the article specify minority neighborhood? explain that to me you dumbass nobody

They specified it not because he was "profiled" but the fact that he obviously didn't appear to be a resident.

When you're profiled your race is the underlying cause for police action against you - they believe due to your race you're more likely to be doing or carrying something illegal. Nothing about this story lets on to that - you just wanted attention. Dumbass.

and even if that's the case, that's still NOT profiling. they responded to a call about suspicious behavior. that is NOT profiling. PERIOD. Profiling is when you approach someone with no just cause on the basis of their race, believing that persons of that particular race are more likely to be committing a crime or may have some contraband. Damn you're fucking stupid.

profiling would be if they rolled up on him out the blue. Profiling occurs when people aren't doing anything that can be deemed suspicious yet are stopped by police under false pretenses or with no just cause.

Just give it up.

Reading is extremely fundamental...

From the article.

Cops were alerted to a suspicious individual, why suspicious?

The incident began at 5 p.m. when a resident said a man was wandering around a low-income, predominantly minority neighborhood several blocks from the oceanfront looking at houses.

Thats why. I hope this puts an end to this dialogue. Cops were called because someone was wandering around looking at houses - a potential burgular someone thought. The story here is that the cops didn't know who bob Dylan was, not him being profiled due to his race - and I'm willing to bet good moneythe cops were white.

It's pathetic how stupid you are.
