A few jewels for any black tech entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur or any black guys/girls in technology. It's alot to take in and I don't expect this thread to stay on the 1st page long so bookmark it. I'll be adding to it from time to time. The 1st set of videos are the most important...

Wiliam Crowder is a Managing Director with Dream It Ventures. He works closely with DreamIt’s NYC and Philadelphia programs. He is also responsible for the oversight and operation of DreamIt Access, our newly announced effort to increase the number of minority-led startups.

Here, he discusses the current state of minority tech startups and drops knowledge on how to take minority participation to the next level.

This is just an interesting interview with BGOL member Chamillionaire who has gotten involved w/ the tech/startup world over the past 5-6 years or so.

The NewMe Accelerator
I really like this new program, aimed at helping minorities and women to start companies and get them going. Started by Wayne Sutton and Angela Benton, here you meet the 15 startups and get a look at this great group of entrepreneurs.

This is a talk at Googles campus about the NewMe Program and black entrepreneurship. It's good but long.

If you have an idea for a product or service and are thinking about launching a tech startup, here's some recommended reading for before and while embarking on the journey....

Good stuff. Looks like we're making ourselves more visible ever since that CNN special. Hopefully this is just the beginning of something transformational for black entrepreneurs in general.

Thanks for posting.

Great drop, I'm familiar with the New Me Accelerator program. Great shit. Working on some shit myself. Growing up in Bama I was reared not to let color hold me back. Yes we are minorities and odds have ALWAYS been stacked against us, but the same way we kick doors down in the past we can do the same elsewhere. Most importantly, when we do we give back. each one teach one. Propz.

I would love to pursue my own brick and mortar business but I've just been burned by so many racists. Its worn me down and I'm seriously thinking about abandoning IT.

Along time ago, I had a IT business idea for a company to become the AOL of tech support. Anyone I told loved the idea but since then I've just had my moral busted down.

So either way, good luck to all that push on.

Yea, he dropped straight science in there.

Dog, you're are in ITin an era where its become so easy and cheap to build things... Screw brick and mortar and high ass commercial leases and all that. Come up with an idea for something web based. Maybe something in your tech support niche but different than your last idea. Or maybe the same idea just tweaked...

Everybody takes some losses and gets burned out. Success is defined by getting up one more time than the amount of times u been knocked down.

man i respect cham this nigga will hit the lottery with one of them shits

He is. Dude is sharp.

Good interview with Cham, I also have that chick on my linkedin.

I try to connect using Linkedin with other black entrepreneurs.

I also dropped a link to the Running Lean book in the entrepreneur thread I created earlier for those interested.

In Silicon Valley, they have regular meetups via www.meetup.com

We need to network and support our ideas, get co-founders to be able to drive us to that other level.

I do the meetups, tech conferences etc... then there are the hacker meetups by week or months etc...

I would encourage us to take a look at meetup.com and do searches in San francisco and see how people are networking, the topics etc and duplicate that in your city.

Start a facebook group and invite friends who are interested to share ideas, resources etc....

start by taking some time and watch the videos when u get a chance.

and dont worry about anybody stealing ur idea man. seriously. u are gonna have to talk to alot of people about it. highly unlikely that anybody who is about their business is gonna take the next 6 months to 2 years to steal and develop ur idea.

That is the one barrier that does not exist here.

People meetup and freely bounce their idea off of other people.

I used to go to a Lean Startup meetup where people will pitch their idea, they develop it week to week using Lean Methodology into working products.

No one cares about your idea because we all have ideas!

In fact facebook wasn't a new idea, it was an existing idea that was done differently.

Same with google, wasn't new, yahoo existing before it.

If fact if you work on an existing idea, it may be easier to get funding since the demand for the service would be easier to prove.

It's about your execution.

I’m looking for a few entrepreneurial CEOs to take part in a discussion at the Forbes Galleries on May 24 on what else, raising money.

We’re looking for CEOs seeking early stage and angel investing. On the other side we’d also like to attract VCs, angel investors, financial consultants, etc to the meeting so we can have a robust discussion around this issue.

The intimate meeting will be taped and be available for viewing on Forbes.com so in addition to exchanging ideas and making new contacts, you’ll also get some play on Forbes’ video channel dedicated to small business-- http://www.forbes.com/special-report/2012/small-business-tool-kit.html.

The meeting will be lead by Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes. aengel@forbes.com for more information.

Let's keep this thread on page 1.

Kawasaki speaks of his experiences as an evangelist, entrepreneur, and most recently, as a venture capitalist who found, fixed, and funded startups.

If someone won't fund it, you don't give up, you find the funding yourself. That is, if you really believe in it.

I have an idea for a startup. I just don't know who I go to about it, and how the fuck to keep ppl from stealing the idea. :smh:

You gather info and pursue it. If you really want to do something, you won't let anything stop you. And you make your idea the best that it can be, and realize that there most likely WILL be copycats, but so what, you have to find the thing that makes your idea unique.

---

I'm familiar with the NewMe Accelerator, but on that last Black in America special, pretty much all of them got ripped a new one when it was time to pitch their idea. They need to get some public speaking classes as part of the accelerator so they are bale to convey their idea and they also need to be prepeared to severely criticize each other so that the ideas will be fuly developed and almost all questions will have an answer when it's time to pitch.

The market does not care what color you are, only that your idea can viably make an investor a lot of green.
