I'd bet even money that he originally rented/leased the car, too. But, you know, once you set it on fire, you "bought" it. That's a better story than "my dumb ass invalidated my contract doing dumb shit".

But even if he did pay for it, it's just crazy to pull something like this, anyway.

The only smart thing these guys did was recognize that they needed to try and keep the fire isolated to the car(s) and away from the field (not that that really succeeded, either). For anyone that doesn't know, cars pretty much go up like that, and that fast, to boot. So if you ever find yourself in that situation, grab whatever is important immediately and then get away from the fire as fast as you can. ...although that's just Fire Safety 101.
