President Biden’s approval rating is at a historic low in a new poll, which coincides with a national surge in COVID-19 cases, rising consumer prices and struggles to advance his legislative agenda on Capitol Hill.

The new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that Biden’s approval rating has sunk to 41 percent, a historic low for the president in polls conducted by the groups. Fifty-five percent of adults in the U.S. disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president.

When broken down by party, 29 percent of independents polled said they strongly approve or approve of the job Biden is doing, while 66 percent said they strong disapprove or disapprove.

Eighty-seven percent of Democrats and just 4 percent of Republicans gave the president positive marks for the job he is doing.

Biden’s most recent approval rating is a slight decline from 42 percent in a poll released on Dec. 9. His approval for the polling groups peaked mid-April, when 54 percent of adults gave him positive marks.

The poll, which was conducted between Dec. 11 and Dec. 13, comes amid a difficult time for the Biden White House, which is currently facing a surge in COVID-19 cases driven largely by the new omicron variant, increasing inflation nationwide and dim prospects for the Democrats' social spending and climate legislation.

Coronavirus infections have been on the rise after the highly mutated omicron variant was first identified in South Africa last month, and quickly spread to a number of countries and throughout the U.S.

The U.S. is also seeing a rise in prices nationwide amid a level of inflation the country as not seen in 30 years.

On Capitol Hill, negotiations for Biden’s roughly $2 trillion social spending and climate package, known as the Build Back Better Act, have stalled. At the time of the poll lawmakers and White House officials were still working to hash out the final details of the behemoth legislation.

Since then, however, the chances of a bill passing the Senate have significantly dwindled after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced Sunday that he will not vote for the legislation.

The poll surveyed 1,400 adults. The results for the subset are statistically significant within plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

With all due respect bruh you don't seem to be aware of how government works. It's all about power and the Democratic Party having a numerical edge in the Congress and 50/50 tie in the Senate ( with the VP casting a deciding vote if necessary) should be able to wield that power except for a few things like total Republican obstructionism, Democratic double agents like Manchin and Sinema and the fuck you to end all fuck you's, the Filibuster.

All the campaign promises you listed that Biden has not fulfilled are directly due to those roadblocks and until enough progressive leaning people get involved and vote in more Democratic Representatives and Senators Biden will continue to reside in a political box and his only recourse will be to issue Executive Orders not requiring Congressional assent. But such orders can be challenged in the courts all the way to the Supreme Court and with a six to three Republican majority there's likelihood not all such orders would survive.

So it's not that Biden blows as you put it, it's just a master of, like the all saying, "the one with the most toys wins". In this case those toys are votes.

I understand your frustration, but imo you're still kinda missing the point. Democrats can pass all the legislation they want in the House but it still has to get by a deadlocked Senate. And one Democratic Senator can throw a monkey wrench into things and unfortunately the Democrats have two.
Now you say Biden should have gotten Machin on board by threatening to prosecute his daughter for jacking up the price of EpiPen. Now how is that possible when what she did was abhorrent but not illegal?

Be realistic the bottom line is Democrats simply do not have the numbers required to advance Biden's agenda because of two bought and paid for Senators and ain't a fuckin' thing he can do about it right now except essentially beg, plead, and cajole in hopes of swaying the two Republicans posing as Democrats. Now if the Dems controlled 53 seats in the Senate instead of 50 we'd be having a whole different conversation now wouldn't we.

I agree it looks weak. Now tell me specifically how he gets around Manchin who's running for President as quiet as it's kept. Tell me, just what is Joe's new get tough posture suppose to look like. Easy to say fuck a civics lesson but it is precisely because not nearly enough people know shit about what is taught in civic classes that bad things happen like more and more right wing judges and legislators elected federally and locally, and these jokers are bent on returning this country to the good ole days of the 1950's using any tactic necessary which translates into keeping your black ass and mine in our place.
