For their first vehicle, what did you get them? Did you buy a beater for them to get some mileage under their belt? Or did you buy something new?

If you care to share what make and model, that would be a bonus.

Didn't "buy" them shit. Let them buy it and pay insurance (on our policy - check with your provider) so they can learn what it is to take care of a vehicle.

So, whatever they can afford within reason, especially if you're the co-insurer because as we know certain types of cars cost more to insure, let alone teenagers.

That means, something reliable like a Honda or Toyota. A sedan because that's cheaper to insure and they can fit their lowlife friends in.

Fortunately, I've been working on cars nearly my entire life so I was able to check out what they were considering and offer an opinion but at the end of the day, I let them buy what they wanted (mostly) and let them deal with it when the shit broke down and required lots of money to repair (an Audi for one).

Daughters made sure they at least got something reliable so they wouldn't have to depend on those grimy boys they dated.

Grrrrr.......Well my oldest just graduated high school and my father in law bought him a '14 ES350. True it is almost a 10 year old car, but should your first car be a Lexus? FIL is paying insurance too. He claims he is going to need a car at school, but what college freshman needs a car in DC?

Thats the route my Pops took with me. He matched the amount I saved to buy my first car. We are looking at new Corollas.

Very generous of him.

I just let them drive whatever was in the driveway.
All were handed down their first car.
The first car I actually bought specifically for any of them was my sons (the Baby) E350 after the C220
We handed down to him finally died after 345,000 miles.
My kids always had great work ethics, good grades and common sense... so I would still give them
cars if they needed it...... Except now i think all but 1 makes waaaay more money than me !
Im expecting a Bentley for Christmas !
