BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and Ron?

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

I remember then gettin' lightweight burn (compared to the heavy hitters of that era) back in the day.

I knew of these cats and recognized them by name in the thread title, but there's no reason to have to forget Run DMC to remember them. That's like saying forget Big Daddy Kane to remember Father MC.

Re: BLACK, ROCK & RON!!!

Songs I definitely heard in passing but them radio DROPS were most famous along with the Violators & PoppaProps
Mid to late 80s shit

The reason why they shouldn't be on TVONE's UNSUNG... is because their run was too short AND not strong enough... :smh:

It's not like they did anything special in Hip Hop... :smh:

The ONLY way they should be on UNSUNG... is if UNSING were to do a story on Paul C...

Other than that... I'd put them back in the crate... along with... JoeSki Love... The Dissmasters... Lakim Shabazz... and Sons of Bezerk...

Aww man & .....Manntronix...... Groove B Chill..........Classic2....JVC Force....FreshGordon.......NowJustice's via QUs own the incomparable ChillRob........The Afros b4 they made the group & were running around with EdLuva & them high top Kwame dyed fades with the BrideOfFrankenstein lighting bolt in em..........RappinIzFundamental....K7..........DiamondShell & ALL the rest of them filler acts/1HitWonders pre the Blow up of the Hollice Crew & the Disco3 that made them early Chuck/Red/Magic Hip Hop shows FULL of variety:cool:

STETSASONIC was the one who kicked off the black awareness movement
PE was there but the STET with A.F.R.I.C.A. in 1986 was the one that opened up the ANTI-APARTHEID movement in hip hop

no google necessary, I was there

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

It's funny, NY had at least 3 regular video shows (all underground and answering to no one) but I never heard Black Rock and Ron once
Not even Video Music Box and Ralph played every genre of rap that was out

Drop some knowledge. What happened to them?

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

Video Music Box is still around. Ralph McDaniels is still representing although I think the show is now weekly and not daily

Yo MTV Raps was Fab Five Freddy's baby. Then Ed Lover and Dr. Dre. Not sure what Fab is doing these day but you all know where Ed Lover is

Pump It Up was Sista Dee came around 1989 and was gone by maybe 1991 thanks in part to the weak assed beef shit that was developing

there were a couple of other local shows: What's the 4-1-1? Tony Herbert had a show I can't remember the name. My man Jay Smooth's Underground Railroad can still be heard on WBAI. What basically happened is that rap music was becoming more commercial. More mainstream. Once that happened most of the locals cats got passed by. If they weren't down for the company they were left out in the cold to fend for themselves. Once Arrested Development won that grammy the Golden Age was over. It had become completely commercial and got played out through overkill. Now all the rage was becoming this shit called gangsta rap.

I realize I left out a few things. I'm just hitting what for ME were the high and low lights

got caught in a car with the wrong people...hes the only one still knocked

his time is short now tho

drugs, guns, etc? Sorry for insisting, but what was with the car and what was with the wrong people?

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

Let me add that "Vee Jay" Ralph McDaniels and the Vid Kid were the FIRST to have program dedicated solely to black music and hip hop but they NEVER got a national program and NEVER moved past public TV level. Even though their program was head and shoulders past everyone and their popularity was legendary

I don't know all the details check out my man Van Silk who is on here somewhere
