* Hailing from Hollis Queens, Lord Black, The Ruler Master Rock, and Ron Scratch released their first single "Hard Rap" on Next Plateau in 86 under the name the Vicious Four. In 1987 Black, Rock & Ron hooked up with Jazzy Jay (Strong City) who produced their next single "That's How I'm Livin" also on Next Plateau. At the request of LL Cool J they then went on to be managed by the one and only Russell Simmons' Rush Town. Then getting signed to RCA Records Black, Rock and Ron put together the material for their debut album "Stop The World". With legendary engineers: the late Paul C. (Ultramagnetic MC's, Super Love Cee & Cassanova Rudd, Organized Konfusion), DJ Doc (Boogie Down Productions, Spyder D), and Skeff Anselm (A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian) at the boards they put out the underrated classic LP, a few 12 inch singles, and a couple videos. They gained a cult following overseas, the album "Stop the World" was released on the Supreme record label in the UK. It entered the UK album charts on 22 April 1989, and reached number 72. They were last involved with the Hip-Hop Against Apartheid - Ndodemnyama (Free South Africa) anti-apartheid song. *

Black, Rock & Ron - Stop The World

e7mblv.jpg

Stop the world

Hook]
Stop the world

[Verse 1: Lord Black]
Heard you been waiting on a knowledge-dropping song
This will teach you right from wrong, the deal is you must be strong
Stop the world, a new sound made up by Africans
You have to (show the world) just like you were Jamaican
The world is lopsided, we're living proof
When I'm at a club, brothers act un-(cool)
We're eager to reach people who are not aware
Of black awareness and how the government is not fair
Because of that this word we send, don't be surprised
My name is Lord Black (dark skin, brown eyes)
They're not contacts (I'm not living like that)
Support black movements by Black Rock and Ron
Instead of wasting your money on (Gucci, Louis Vitton)

Who's to blame, there shouldn't be no shame in the game
I'm black not a wannabe, or a gonna be
I'm a def MC, in this industry
What we ought to do is come together
With positive thoughts that are keen and clever
If you have a goal you should go full strength
If it's a positive thing, you can go the length
Some brothers act fool, they're getting me fed
You need to lay off the drugs and read a book instead
Respect your brother man, wash each other's hand
We must take a stand, then on the other hand
Take back the motherland, and... stop the world

[Hook]

[Verse 2: Master Rock]
This jam is for all not two nerds on the kerb
(That's how I'm living), a household word
Stop the world, be global
(That's living)
And every Sunday I watch Gil Noble
We must prepare those unaware
Blind, deaf and dumb, we shall all overcome
Ten ounces of knowledge is what I'm manifesting
I got the answers, you got the questions
Why do we struggle, fight and kill one another
When you're supposed to be (Peace my brother)

Your knowledge is little and I've got a lot
Emcees who pop shit you put yourself on the spot
Hip Hop is a mission and we try to be hard
But the world is soft except mighty (God)
You bite, I bite, yo, we're all biters
Well writers of poetry, we're not hypocrites or lunatics
Hip Hop is politics, check out the statistics
The rap critics try to hold us down, stab our backs, but we're
(Too black, too strong)
I'm not wrong, you live by the sword you're gonna die by the lord
Yo (freeze...)
Put down that knife
(Rapping is my life)
That's what this jam's about
The rap group's gonna teach those troops
It's how some demonstrate, educate, keep building
Stop the world and save all the children
Baiting us, hating, no trust in lust
You think you're better than us, that's why we must
Stop the world before judgement day
And everybody listen close to what I say, c'mon
Men, women, all you boys and girls
Let's get it together and... stop the world

[Hook]

[Verse 3: Lord Black]
Stop don't point, I got mine get (yours)
When this world was created, Allah made it spin
You thought my crew fell off, think again my friend
Oh (yes), it's (Black) and I'm back (y'all)
With a powerful movement that will never fall
It's time, I won't resign, I'm gonna (get it right)
What's rightfully mine
To stop the world it's a mission, we want people to listen
Like Martin Luther King he stopped the world before
If people didn't listen, it would have been another civil war

I'm down for science for the unaware born
This beat is raw, that's what we're giving
Ron, can we get paid (that's how I'm living)
So open the door (down by law)

[Master Rock]
Stop the world is a complete thought
A positive message cause we've taken too much shorts
We've wasted our time, paid our dues, cried the blues
And now it's time to change our shoes
How does it feel when the shoe's on the next foot
Like Kunta Kinte we all had to stay put
As you all know, two hundred years ago, we were peasants
This is a Black, Rock and Ron, Tony and Tommy production
To stop chaos, crime and all of corruption
I'm down with the movement like a X-Man
Not trying to disrespect the next man
Stay on point, mental and physical shape
I don't sell drugs, I sell records and tapes
Some tracks I teach and some tracks are for fun

If we can't do it it can't be done
Money making...
(What's up)
Pump the shotgun
That's just a warning, don't be here in the morning
It is our turf, we call it planet Earth
We all want peace but can we do it in peace
In New York I'm a gangster because of my looks
When I walk down the street I'm harassed by the jooks
"Why was you running?"
"Why was you chasing me?"

Like a pipe in my face trying to base me
Like Anita Baker, I'm caught up in a rapture
I'm not a crook it's the hook from my lyric book
Another chapter called Stop the World

NB: Even though these brothers were at times referred to as a spin-off of RUN D.M.C., they were nothing like the latter. Wearing African medallions and spreading knowledge about the situation of Black folks, they were unfortunately slept on. I guess they did not appeal to the white masses. Just in case you dig these brothers and their message, y'all know where to find the download link.

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

you're introducing them terribly.

Insulting your audience (Black hiphop fans) by saying "guess they didn't appeal to white masses"

There were countless pro black rap groups in the 80's and early 90s

Not only have I never heard of them, they don't realy sound like RUN DMC at all, and they really sound years after RUN DMC. They sound more like a PE knockoff.

Now that I'm reading your intro more, I'm starting to think you ARE a white guy:lol::lol::lol:

They clearly didn't appeal to the Black masses here in the states, yet they did appeal to SOMEONE in Europe- i.e. some white masses somewhere, according to your bio.

And now I see they came out in 87, waaaay after RUN DMC, so I don't see how they're even mentioned in the sae sentence with these guys.

The songs ok though, nothing in the class of what was out in that era. Public Enemy had "Yo! Bum Rush The show" followed quickly by "Nations of Millions.."

BDP was out, Big Daddy Kane was out, SLick RIck and Dougie Fresh, K9 Posse, Tuff Crew, Fresh Prince and Jazzy jeff, 3xdope, Steady B, Cool C- only person I'd even think of knocking off my list to listen to these guys would be Rob Bass:lol::lol::lol:

Wait... ARE YOU IN THIS GROUP?

Wait... ARE YOU IN THIS GROUP?

Sir I am black... Guess you thinking that you are communicating with Nzinger or Kogelee (whatever his name is)

Yes, they were slept on because they did not appeal to the white masses.

Second, many online articles including the re-released album refer to them as having a style similar to RUN-D.M.C. (minus the Adidas and Gold Chains) :hmm:

I'm from that era- they weren't just slept on by the WHITE masses- they were slept on by the Black masses.

But I forgot who I was talking to. You love White people so much, you need approval from them on everything.

I've NEVER heard of these guys.

There were so many groups back then rapping Black consciousness, so it aint like they got shelved for being too Black.

I aint gonna say they're whack, cuz the songs ok.

Whoever wrote about them being similiar to RUN DMC knows nothing about RUN DMC. As a person from the culture (which I have to question now) YOU ought not parrot such bullshit. You're kinda exposing yourself.

Now, How am I exposing myself Sir?

Other than the liner notes on the re-release, here is where it is stated:

It does mean that it is not wrong. and If it is, "we stand corrected"

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

kefta, i love you bro but this aint it.

You're cultural out of touch with US Hip hop sometimes. Not all the time but sometimes.
For instance, Public Enemy is credited with the black awareness movement. They spearheaded all of it. There's no way this group were Run DMC knockoffs.

Not sonically, not vocally, not even in rhyme or cadence. Not only that Run DMC's movement was a positive attitude movement akin to Mister T back in the day.

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

Black, Rock and Ron were a local Rap Group...

I'll put it to you like this.... Black, Rock and Ron were the dudes who would open up for anybody who came to clubs in Queens(Jamaica, Queens to be exact)

So if like LL... or New Edition would to the Encore or if someone would come to the Q-Club... Black, Rock and Ron would open for them...

I knew them through Paul C and they were cool too.

BUT... The ONLY thing they had in common with RUNDMC... was that they were from Jamaica and they were cool with RUNDMC... THAT'S IT... :itsawrap:

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock and

Black Rock and Ron had some joints and did get alot of radio and video play, they just didn't last..Im pretty sure him saying forget Run-Dmc for a minute wasnt supposed to be taken literally. Just putting a spotlight on these dudes.

If your a Hip-Hop Head you have heard this record one time or another.

Thank you. But without knowing that, their outfits already tell you they were influenced by PE. The OPs link references 1987, when PEs second offering was released.

This.

I moved to Queens in '83 from Brooklyn, that's how I heard about them, they got some airplay here, but you could easily tell they weren't mainstream, did see their names on a few flyers for Encore/Echoes, The Q-Club & a couple of "hip hop" roller rinks like Skate Key, USA in Roosevelt, & even Roller Castle in Elmont, I know the song in the vid posted but if I remember correctly they had a bigger hit, can't remember the name though!

Lol my bad I'm just realizing the problem. You're African.

It's ok bro, you weren't here in the states during that era and you're getting your knowledge from something you read.

I think you're putting too much on it though.

It's quite possible that somehow that music reached you and you may have thought they were popping over here. They weren't. And again, I'm not gonna diss the brothers cuz the song you posted isn't BAD per se, it just wouldn't have gotten much burn amongst people I know.

Hearing this, I dont feel like I missed out on much by not hearing them back then.

By mentioning them in the same breath as RUN DMC and saying "forget them" you make it bad for these guys. You did that Nzinga shit which makes it harder for the group lol.

And in that era BLACK PEOPLE DID MATTER. Every major rap group you heard if from that era was official and well respected by US.

we were proud of RUN DMC. We still are.

No doubt...

I understand what you were trying to do...

Black, Rock and Ron made some noise back then...

They were the perfect example of what an underground hip hop group was back then...

They had a deal... They made some videos... some of which got regular rotation on shows like Hot Tracks... and Video Music box... and they were somewhat Hood celebrities...

They just never broke through on a national level... :smh:

When you think of Black, Rock and Ron... They were a POOR MAN'S RUNDMC...

Lol I was hoping you could see my tone wasn't meant to be taken that way- I called you bruh.

I just realized where you were coming from- except that you titled the thread "forget RUN DMC" which is disrespectful, especially when talking to American Black folks from that era. Most of us truly dig Run DMC and they're authentic.

I once made a thread giving props to another unknown southern rap group named BYRON DAVIS AND THE FRESH CREW.

They had a style similar to Luke- but I would never title the thread "fuck 2livecrew!"

It tends to make people come in just to defend their group and not give what you post a fair shot.

I have no problem with you being African- we share that bond, but when it comes to a culture I know something about and you coming in trying to say how it really should be lol-

I don't know what part of Africa you're from but imagine me telling you about groups from there in the same era saying fuck one of your favorite groups- listen to this group.

That sounds like some shit a white person would do lmaoooo

What makes your racial angle so much funnier is that there are white boys from the states in that era who would know much more than you about some shit like that.

And even worse, Paul C, who is credited with working on this album, the group you threw slander at RUN DMC for.... Was white.

The two words "forget" and "fuck" have totally different meanings. You wish to equate them, then I rest my case.

Then again, this thread is not intended to discredit RUN-D.M.C. but to shine some light on this brothers. In fact, tvone should do an Unsung episode on them.

TVONE should do an UNSUNG on them? WHY?

George W. Bush set up an Aids relief plan for Africa titled "Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief". So what are you saying?

I'm saying that hiphop culture does have some white people at it's roots, and some of them clearly know more about it than you.

If you aint from this shit, quit tryin to tell those who are what should be important in their culture.

Thats some shit white people do. Just come in and ask us about it. SOme of the cats in here who are literally from Queens are giving you answers to whatever questions you may have.

At least theyre still on the net to be discovered. Peace to the group. They made some decent hiphop.

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock ...

I've never heard of them either. Nas gave them a shout out on A Queens Story. Listening to the three tracks in this thread the beats all sound like I've heard them before just with weaker lyrics. First track was sort of PE, second track was sort of Kid N Play and then the third track was sort of Run DMC.

Why should they not?

About some white folks knowing more about hipHop than me? Well dah! That should not be a surprise. Why? because there is always someone that knows more about something than another person. That is how the creator set things up.

Other than that, white folks have access to more info on any culture than non-white people. Remember, the context is racism/white supremacy. It's not our fault. It is just what it is. Now, tell me something that I do not know?

Re: BGOL HipHop heads, Let's forget RUN-D.M.C. for a Sec. What about Black, Rock ...

I've never heard of them either. Nas gave them a shout out on A Queens Story. Listening to the three tracks in this thread the beats all sound like I've heard them before just with weaker lyrics. First track was sort of PE, second track was sort of Kid N Play and then the third track was sort of Run DMC.

 Back when Black, Rock and Rob was on the map...

exiledking... are you listening?

The reason why they shouldn't be on TVONE's UNSUNG... is because their run was too short AND not strong enough... :smh:

It's not like they did anything special in Hip Hop... :smh:

The ONLY way they should be on UNSUNG... is if UNSING were to do a story on Paul C...

Other than that... I'd put them back in the crate... along with... JoeSki Love... The Dissmasters... Lakim Shabazz... and Sons of Bezerk...

Cold.

Thanks for the response and could you please help me explain to the exiledking that this thread is not meant to discredit RUN D.M.C. but to shine some light on this group. Money is equating "forget" with "fuck"... :smh:

I think you just did that...

BUT... if he doesn't understand that then there's nothing you can do about it... :dunno:
