Yeah, just watch the Bad anniversary documentary. There is a segment on there that explains this. He could go deep with his voice, but he kept it high pitch for the MJ trademark. I can't remember which musician had the phone convo with him about it where he said he talked to MJ and he had a deep voice. He asked Mike why didn't he sing in that bass and he said he wanted to keep his voice at high pitches for his songs.
