BET+, the forthcoming streaming service from Viacom and Tyler Perry, is not wasting any time in getting down to business.

BET announced Monday that its streaming platform — a joint venture with multihyphenate Perry — will officially launch Thursday, Sept. 19 and cost $9.99 per month. The service will debut with more than 1,000 hours of content, including new originals and film and TV library content that includes Perry's stage plays and acquired content, all of which will be ad-free.

Here's an overview of who's running the show at BET+ and a guide to its content.

EXECUTIVES

Devin Griffin
, a Netflix alum, will oversee the service as general manager. He is charged with overseeing business strategy and operations — including content development, programming, marketing, distribution, planning and analysis for BET+. He is based in Los Angeles and reports directly to BET president Scott Mills. "In our first year, we will release a BET+ original project almost every month, adding to our lineup of deep and diverse content," he said. "We’re focused on super-serving lovers of black stories by working with top talent, and supporting fresh new voices, on both sides of the camera."

ORIGINAL CONTENT

First Wives Club | From Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip) the reboot of the 1996 feature was originally developed for TV Land and moved to Paramount Network before finding a home at BET and, now, BET+. All nine episodes of the series, starring Jill Scott, Michelle Buteau and Ryan Michelle Bathe, will be available at launch. Watch a trailer, below.

Bigger | From prolific producer Will Packer, the series formerly known as Peachtree Place revolves around five thirty-somethings living in Atlanta as they try to build professional and personal lives they can be proud of, but the one thing they don’t have keeps impeding their progress: love. The first three of the 10-episode comedy, starring Tanisha Long and Angell Conwell, will be available at launch.

Sacrifice | From writer Chris Stokes (You Got Served), Paula Patton stars as an entertainment lawyer navigating the nefarious lives of her rich and famous clients. The drama is being produced as a two-hour movie that doubles as a back-door pilot. It will launch sometime in 2020.

LIBRARY CONTENT

BET+ will be the home of Perry's theatrical films, including the Madea series, original series like House of Payne and selection of stage plays including Meet the Browns, Daddy's Little Girls, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor and more. Additional Perry titles will be added when rights deals are untangled. Perry's BET originals — including The Oval and Sistas — will also join the service following their linear debuts, with both shows launching Wednesday, Oct. 9 on BET.

BET+ will also be the exclusive SVOD home to Martin and BET's library, including The Bobby Brown Story, The New Edition Story, Real Husbands of Hollywood, The Quad, Being Mary Jane, Boomerang, Coming to America, Higher Learning, Poetic Justice, Tina Turner Live in Holland as well as the BET Awards, Hip Hop Awards and Soul Train Awards, among others. In the months ahead, stand-up comedy specials will be added from the likes of D.L. Hughley, Eddie Griffin, Nick Cannon, Sasheer Zamata, Lil Rel, Gina Yashere and Sinbad, among others. The service will also be home for library content form other Viacom-owned brands, including VH1's Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Basketball Wives, T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle; Comedy Central's Why? With Hannibal Buress; MTV's Todrick; TV Land's Soul Man; and Nick at Night's Instant Mom.

Hating ass nikkas

This is not marketed towards you.

Women love tyler Perry

I dont know a black woman that doesn't watch his shows on OWN.

women not about to go through the hastle of dealing with android boxes.

They would rather pay

And they'll pay for this

They need to create a live TV package but geared towards a targeted audience a black alternatives to Sling. Remove the bullshit Axs, History, Lifetime, ID channels
Make sure to add Own, get TV One, Revolt, and Fuse, and Bounce and Aspire along with BET Jams and Bet Soul, plus an add on sports package with HBCU games.

good luck with that
every chanel aint meant to be over the top

no one i know watches BET, let alone will spend 10 bucks a month to watch

Unless they can somehow bring back the classics (BET Uncut for instance), i'll pass.

Would do better to not be branded under the BET name...just call it something else...as you can see from this thread, many of us look down on Black brands.

White man's ice is colder.

Andrew Young is one of the early investors in Bounce TV It comes over the air in Atlanta.. I like that they show PBC fights. Before I got put on to IPTV I definitely watched and appreciated that it was Black owned and geared towards us.

All these fucking streaming services are only making me wanna give my money to Western Digital for bigger hard drives to power my pirate ship

You might as well stick with cable/satellite at this point.
