Newscaster: "Mike, Francois Botha, 6-1 underdog. Any concerns on your part?
Mike: "I don't know nothing about that, I don't know nothing about numbers. I just know what I can do. How bout killing this muthafucka....."

......

Newscaster: "Mike, why do you have to talk like that?"
Mike: "Well I'm talking to you the way I want to talk you, if you have a problem, turn off your station"

How the man gonna tell the person giving the interview to change the station? Mike Tyson truly holds no tongues.

If we were to put the majority stuff he is saying into context of his life and experiences then we will emphatize or at least understand his "madness."

Labelling theory - When society catogerizes a person into a particular typolgical category, they begin to act as such. This happens a lot with children, e.g. a teachers tells a child they will grow up to be nothing and they begin to believe it and grow up to be nothing.

Society told Mike he is a crazy black beast and he believe it and acts as such. One can hear it in his own words, that he prepetuates that notion. As he told the reporter, even if I am nice to you you will still think I am a beast.

Say what you want, from about 1:43 of the to the end of that interview with Jim Grey that shit got my blood pumping. I'm about to do about 100 dips on the strength of that. Well maybe 35 or something.....

Look for James Toback's sympathetic documentary about Tyson, a big hit at Sundance this year, to be available soon (on-screen and DVD).
