My girl is at best buy about to cop me a tablet for V-day. The salesman is trying to get her to buy the 89.99 1 year protection plan or the 2 year plan for 159.99. Is this something that she should do???? The tablet itself if the a200 and it is only 350.00. Do these things require alot of service?? Is this a waste of money? Please shed some light on this....

Hell no, places like BB make the majority of their $ on the warranty, and get real funny style when you do need to use the bullshit "protection plan".

Read CONSUMER REPORTS issues.
For the most part they frown on these types of plans.

And $89.99 is HELLA STEEP for a 1-year plan.
Especially for a tablet.
Does that shit even have a replacement option?

When I bought my 40" Flat-screen from BJ's a few weeks ago, they never even pushed their 2-year Replacement Plan on me. But a week later I opted for it. It was only $39.99. And becomes active AFTER the manufacturer's warranty. Giving me a total of 3 years. I thought that was really cheap. And it covers a hell of a lot for that $39.99 I haven't seen with plans in other stores. The TV itself was only around $340 with Bergen County NJ sales tax (3.5%).

I would say just get that tablet for one of those warehouse stores if you can.

Best Buy's replacement plans are great. If anything goes wrong with it you go straight to BB. NO third party repair shop of shipping it off. If they cant fix what is wrong they replace it on the spot. If a new model comes out and it is cheaper when you exchange, they will give you a gift card for the difference.

I think it's worth it.

I still say: It depends on the item.

I only mentioned the trade in option because OP might regret getting a tablet, and a 3 months later, newer, better shit comes out.

Most times in my opinion, it's not worth it since it is not like the item or electronic will break down within a year (well it should not).

Yep sadly.

I got the iPad2 for my birthday/Xmas in December, and I wish they did not.

I checeked the BestBuy buyback shit and :smh:

At least from reports, the iPad3 will mainly be a better screen, camera, and processor. i do not think no major change in the form factor.

And hopefully with the Iconia, they are not putting anything new out no time soon.

Good point...

use a good credit card...

its free just make sure to make the entire purchase on a Citi or Visa AmX or Mastercard...

usually doubles the warranty just keep original warranty and receipt...

I got a new laptop like that:cool:

I would never buy a one year plan. The manufactures warranty covers you under that period. No need for double coverage on something that probably wont go bad in that period. ....Certainly if it doesnt cover accidental damage.

Wait how does that option work that the CC will double the Warrenty??

I would never buy those protection plans manufacturer should stand by the product for at least a year unless you have kids that might break it.

Many major CC companies offer additional warranties on items purchased with their cards.

I bought my iPhone4 on my Amex card. After 2 months the screen cracked. I had some kind of 90 day warranty on it. Filled out the info online, and Amex gave me the $$$ for a new phone.

exactly!!!! Best Buy warranty plan is the best in my opinion bcuz they don't have no argument or problem replacing there products or giving you a upgrade but for the 1st yr everything is covered by the factory so Best Buy will still replace it for you and send it back to the factory them self

I was leaning towards that but probably going to go with square trade it's 99 for two years cover spills and drops basically everything...

Total waste of money.

DON'T DO IT...there have been several reviews on extended warranties and the little value they offer.

I did it once ($399, i think), about 6 years ago, when i spent $1,900 on a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV at Best Buy. That TV is still going strong, but it a lot of money (to me), and first time with an HDTV.

On another note, 6 years later and they're giving Plasma's away...hell, you get a 50" now for like $700...

Always first check to see how long the advertiser's warranty is and also count in how heavy you will be using it and the wear and tear you will put it thru. With certain items that you may push to its limits...it may make sense to get a warranty if the store warranty extends beyond what is offered by the manufacturer... in most cases...you are better off without one.

Whoever she talked to sound like they don't know what they're doing. 90 bucks is alot for a 300 dollar item
If they're charging that much it might be because they know it WILL break and they don't want you to buy the insurance
Better off looking at an item where the insurance is more reasonable. This is the product that the company has confidence in

Yes. If you constantly have issues then you can flip your tablet for a similar product and pay the difference. Just the one year.

I remember shopping for my first flat screen TV. I went to Best Buy but didn't buy anything because they were adjusting the picture so the less expensive TV's looked worse than the expensive ones but they wanted like $200.00 for a 3 year warranty. I went to Walmart. I got the TV and a 3 year warranty (which I never needed to use) for like $75.00. Target has decent warranty prices too.

I work for Best Buy and I can tell you from the shit I see, get the protection plan. I seen a customer bring his shit to me in pieces and in order for us to fix it the shit was gonna cost more than the actual product. We replaced the shit at NO charge and he ended up getting a FULL upgrade to something better.

a waste, only thing i ever get the bb warranty on is car audio. i use to blow my subwoofers every other month, i know they regreted giving me that warranty. i think i replace my speakers at least 20 times

Unless you aren't careful with you stuff. Don't get it. But if you got the extra cash, wouldn't hurt honestly.
