When those issues are settled, Hopkins will have a new priority at the top of his list.
Finding his next opponent.
STORY: Hopkins loses in bizarre finish
The 46-year-old Hopkins told the Associated Press on Monday he will not retire because of his injured left shoulder and the disputed call that cost him his WBC light heavyweight championship.
"I am going to fight again because I'm still the champion," he said. "I believe I will be the champion once the proper channels are being taken."
Hopkins watched replays of his fight against Chad Dawson and still can't believe the bizarre fashion in which he lost the title on Saturday night. He was stopped for the first time in a 23-year career when Dawson dumped him to the canvas late in the second round. No punch, more of a push. Referee Pat Russell ruled there was no foul and the belt was awarded to Dawson via TKO.
The oldest fighter to win a major championship, Hopkins (52-6-2) dislocated the joint connecting his collarbone and shoulder blade. He was scheduled for an MRI Monday on the injured left shoulder. Hopkins needs rehab no matter the outcome — but his next fight could be deep into next year if a severe tear or worse is revealed.
"My career will not end, and has no reason to end, based on Saturday night," Hopkins said. "For what?"
Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer says the result will be appealed to the California State Athletic Commission either Monday or Tuesday. He will ask the WBC and Ring Magazine to continue to recognize Hopkins as the champion.
"It's very clear Chad lifted his legs," Schaefer said.
The WBC posted a statement on its website Monday night that it received a "firm protest" from Golden Boy. The WBC said it is reviewing video of the bout and hoped to have a decision by the end of the week.
"A boxing commission can take independent decisions regarding results," the statement said, "but the World Boxing Council… must take charge of the world title results that only correspond to the organization."
Even by boxing's often outrageous conduct, there's no doubt the finish at the Staples Center was as implausible as they come. Hopkins leaned over the crouching Dawson after throwing an overhand right, and Dawson lifted Hopkins off his feet by standing up, dumping him onto the canvas.

Hopkins awkwardly landed on his back and instantly clutched his left shoulder in pain, seemingly unable to continue.
Hopkins demanded a foul and a no-contest result.
Russell ruled against him and Hopkins' brief championship reign was over.
Among various descriptions of the incident, Hopkins said he "felt like I was tackled by a football player," and "he threw me like a rag doll."
Raggedy Ann and The Executioner will not be found on a toy shelf near you.
"I think the referee got caught up in the moment and didn't know what to do," Hopkins said. "I don't want to sound like I'm whining. The bottom line is, the referee either doesn't know the rules or dropped the ball."
While trash talk before a fight is the norm, there were no signs of the usual post-fight displays of respect. Dawson said after the debacle he knew Hopkins didn't want to fight him. He called Hopkins "a weak, physically and mentally minded person. He has no power."
Hopkins didn't back down on Monday, saying Dawson purposely threw him down to avoid a defeat.
"Of course you don't want to fight me," Hopkins said. "Of course you know I'm a slow starter and I'll figure you out and I'll take you apart. He knew that time was coming."
Hopkins called for instant replay in boxing to help avoid in the future these types of tough calls.
"Boxing is so outdated," he said. "We're living by the rules and technologies of the day of 1929. 1929! They do it in football and they make the right call."
Hopkins now has to wait out the appeals process for his definition of the right call to be made. No matter the outcome, Hopkins said he'll back, training at his Philadelphia gym and ready to prove he's not finished long past the expiration date of most star athletes.
"I'm not going to give this guy the opportunity to have this be the last highlights of a storied career," Hopkins said.

I'm pissed with the ending of the fight, but people do need to get off B Hop's nuts. Calling the man soft and saying he has no heart... stop it. The man is old as fuck and barely should be in the ring at his age. Old men get injured very easy and the shit isn't wrestling... It's boxing. It would be a different story if he got put on his ass from a punch and this happened.

Exactly, and at no point in that first round and a half did it seem like Dawson was going to blow him out, let alone beat him. Shit, Pascal did more Damage to B-Hop in their first round and a half than Chad did. I actually had several mofos tell me today, "he stayed down because he knew he'd lose." Man gtfoh. It takes Hopkins a couple of rounds to study and adjust to his opponents. Dawson always starts well and fades. I'd be more inclined to agree that he flopped to get a point deduction. I still don't buy it, I think it's more plausible that Hopkins tactics might already have been frustrating Dawson, hence the tackle. I feel for whoever paid for that shit though.:smh:

You guys are focusing so much on what Dawson wasn't doing no one is pointing out the clear issues with Bernard! While he didn't look like he was going to get 'blown out', he definitely didn't look too comfortable himself. His lead right, which has been like a cobra strike for the majority of his career looked slow as hell, and easy to telegraph, Dawson saw that shit before he threw it, and Dawson was cutting off the ring easily and getting to him, while not landing, sooner or later I could see that wearing on Bernard. And Bernard is so used to winning the inside battle, he wasn't able to rough Dawson up on the inside like I'm used to seeing him do... All in all, I saw a very competitive fight in the offing, but I also saw a more confident and focused Dawson than I've see in a long time... one who I don't thing Bernard expected to see...

:smh: Watch B-Hop's fights he always looks like shit in the first couple of rounds. I can barely remember the last time he didn't... Outside of Hopkins or Dawson, I wouldn't even use a round and half to judge where any fight is going. I might have been watching a choppy feed, but no one look amazing compared to the other or even like they were annoying the other guy in the manner that your suggesting. Neither fighter looked like they were worried about what the other was doing and even if I'm wrong... we are talking about two rounds... who the fuck doesn't look confident in the early rounds  especially when they haven't been hurt or caught with any clean shots. To sum this up... the fuck are you talking about:confused:

So... I just a Bitch Huh? Choppy feed or not, quite a few fighters are made to feel uncomfortable early in fights and lose confidence... Doesn't matter who it is it can happen. You guys are giving Bernard a free pass because of his executioner persona and the last few years. He is by far one of my favorite fighters, and at 46 what he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing, however, he is also a product of savvy fighter management as well! If you look at his BIG wins, outside of Tarver, he had major advantages over all of them, Delahoya, Trinidad, Pascal (who was younger, but raw as hell), and he was completely outclassed by Calzaghe so, stall me out with all this free pass shit on BHop! He is a legend, but he also is capable of bitching up! While I think he may have been injured, I also have seen fighters, with real fighting hearts, fight through that type of shit and worst!!!

 My man when did I call you a bitch? We are talking about this fight and you are talking about a padded record?:smh: Then you mention Calzaghe, who fought the dude when he should have been retired:lol: Shit all of this is way after he should have been retired a long time ago. Again the fuck are you talking about?

Hopkins is dirty and he milks bullshit all the time, but he was injured for real from a slam. At his age, he can't fuck around with that shit. He doesn't heal like young guys and he can't risk fucking it up worse cause there isn't much of a bounce back at his age. It has nothing to do with heart cause you won't find many fighters his age still doing it. Most of them who are still fighting... are a huge step below gatekeepers and will quit if they get winded so stop all that.

Dude is buggin. Pascal had rocked Hopkins and had him down twice after a couple of rounds. That's making a fighter uncomfortable. If it wasn't the lead right, he would have found something else that worked. And I can't believe homie brought up heart when Chad Dawson is involved in the convo.

anyone know if they're going to change the ruling in the ring from a tko to a no contest? has Hopkins even looked into this yet? Dawson doesn't deserve the belt for doing shit like that :smh:

I swear these motherfuckers are getting crazier by the minute. They act like they aren't talking about a dude who step in that ring over 50 times and gave decades to a sport where you literally are putting your life on the line. The motherfucker isn't scared of a fucking lost. The fuck is really good with these dudes these days? Worry about these young cats who haven't fought anyone and won't put their career on the line unless its for millions. These Dawsons, Pascals and etc shouldn't even get props for fighting Hopkins... talking about Dawson looked confident in two rounds against an old head. He should be thrown out the fucking sport if he had looked shook against a gray haired, toothless old fart... the fuck outta here with all that shit:lol:

Don't know. It should be a no contest. B Hop might just say fuck the sport though... I would if I was him.

Bhop is a clown and a classic loud mouth corner thug that scares the shit out of squares by just talking shit. This guy calls himself the Executioner and has somehow gotten a lot of people to believe in his whole badass persona. It's amazing to me how he gets the fans hyped up all the time thinking he's going to knock somebody out or put some real hurt on somebody. I honestly can't remember the last time Hopkins knocked anybody out or brutalized anyone. This is a guy that goes the distance with Enrique Ornelas and couldn't even drop Roy "Walking Dead" Jones Jr.

The badboy talk doesn't fool me. Hopkins is wily, dirty, and slick in the sense that I can't imagine him getting knocked out. He's kind of like Camacho and Casamayor in that respect. Guys that know the squared circle very well. However, In light of all of Hopkins' crybaby performances similar to Saturday night, I think he should be grouped right along with Victor Ortiz and Zab Judah.

Hopkins: I Won't Retire, Dawson Didn't Want To Fight

PHILADELPHIA — Bernard Hopkins has an appeal set over a controversial finish and rehabilitation ahead for a significant shoulder injury. :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
I'm loving it, let's get this piece of junk out of boxing, NOW. When it comes to a hopkins or judah fight, i refuse to waste one second of my time watching that lame bullshit. Is always the same drama with these 2, i'm glad their careers are coming to an end.

Dawson by TKO sounds like music to my ears :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Absolutely... He was great at one point in his career, now, he will fight, and if he wins he's celebrated, but, when he sees a challenge ahead of him, he will pull bullshit stunts like Saturday night, and the fools on here and in other sectors will buy into it... and chirp about how much of a warrior he is, etc. While he's had a great career, I see him becoming more of a liability than an enhancement... Maybe it is time for him to step off, before he becomes a Holyfield clone! The senior tour was cool for a minute, now it seems it's going to start to become an annoyance... :smh:

Two problems... when you have to find obsure rulings going back like 60 years to justify your point you have a problem. Next if your argument is boxing is rough... I agree, but this is boxing and leg takedowns are beyond what should get a pass.

I'll agree that Hopkins has milked shit before and he gets no props for overselling punches that missed their mark, but this wasn't a questionable punch.

I feel you but unfortunately for him you reap what you sow and he's cried wolf so much his credibility is shot! If I was him I would just bounce. You can only temp fate but so much and sooner or later age vs youth is gonna catch up to him. You can play it two ways... a tough guy who cries wolf and fakes injuries. Not this one, but his career in that area. He will never fully get the benefit of the doubt on this one.... :smh

I told Outlaw ROC on the main board... pretty much the same thing about the average fan not listening to reason.

For me, Hopkins was actually more believable when he was writhing on the canvas in pain. When Hopkins stood up, started making the faces, and talked nonsense in the interview, I just thought to myself "this guy is full of shit." He tried to make it look like he wanted to fight with one arm but the ref just stopped the fight on him but when you look at the replay and listen to the audio he did not seem at all like he wanted the fight to go on.

Additionally, if he hurt his shoulder, why did he have to stay sitting down so long on the canvas if he really wanted to fight? Supposedly he hurt his shoulder not his butt or his back or his legs. Also, fighters fight with injuries all the time. Even if a doctor does say he has some sort of injury, whose to say he didn't have the injury before the fight even started? Is it impossible to fight effectively with an injury of that sort? Boxers almost never arrive to a fight 100% because they spar to get ready. You get wrist sprains, ankle sprains, twisted and sore knees, fucked up knuckles, pulled muscles, etc. All types of shit and all fighters know this. Almost no one goes into a fight 100%. Hopkins might have already had this injury, was able to fight, and then used it as a scapegoat when necessary. In summary, Hopkins is full of shit just like Cintron was when he jumped out the ring.

I hear you but it is unfair to compare injuries fighters are able to fight with, and I believe a shoulder injury is more difficult to deal with in the realm of boxing than most other injuries. You can tighten or loosen your fist with a hand injury, you can stand still and sit down on your punches more to deal with a leg or back injury, but a shoulder injury, which the motion is imperative for any punching motion, might cause more problems. I look at it this way, Vitaly Klitschko fought like hell against Lennox Lewis with horrible facial injuries, argued like hell when the fight was stopped, and was celebrated for this, but a few years earlier, in a fight when he was whipping light punching Chris Byrd's ass, he quit on his stool because of the pain from a shoulder injury... Shoulder injuries are a whole different animal my friend...

Saying all this, I still believe BHop is full of shit on this one, but I do understand the need to stop fighting if his shoulder was really hurt, and I do say IF!!!!

It all depends on what type of shoulder injury. Evander Holyfield fought with shoulder injuries for years. In other words, Holyfield had shoulder injuries going into several fights. In any one of them he could have done a Hopkins and thrown himself onto the ground and said, "oh, my shoulder." The doctors would have done an examination, realized he had a bad shoulder, and people would just assume the fall did it. I think Hopkins is bullshitting all around and even if he really does have an injury I'm not convinced it really would have stopped him from continuing or even that the injury occurred during the fight.

The worst part is bitchass Dawson raising his arm and posing and holding onto the belt like he was proud of that shit. What man wants to win that way?

My favorite post in the thread. I can't knock your opinion. What bothered me most was Chad. Really dude is that how you want to win a title? Then have the nerve to say no rematch. That was weaker than Bhop's flopping to me.

That punk Dawson talked shit for years and then when he had the chance to step up, he pulls this crap. There are lots of ways to get out of a clinch or grab, and throwing the opponent off calls for stuff like what happened to occur. Now Dawson wants to say that he "deserves" the belt after this AND does not want a rematch??? gtfooh

Looks like Chad was the real person that wanted to dodge this fight :smh:

End of the day if a fighter isn't losing a fight, isn't getting caught with clean punches, or isn't getting hurt by punches and they say they were injury by a slam with confirmation from a doctor... I will give them the benefit of doubt that it is legit even though there isn't barely any wiggle room for shenanigans imo because I have no clue as to what would be the point.

All this debate about motherfuckers fighting injury for what ever reasons is goofball shit.
