Cult is a long stretch with regards to JWs. The organization does not operate in secret or seclusion. Anybody can attend their meetings and read their publications. There is no obligatory donations or any requests for your personal property or possessions.
They don't support gambling, military service, nationalism, smoking, drinking, drugging, homosexuality, out of wedlock sex, pagan holidays, birthdays celebrations, abortions and blood transfusions.
I am 0% JW and I don't have a problem with their standards of conduct. Got close relative who have been living that lifestyle for 50 years.

Been close to a few and I like that aspect of it all.
I dont get it how some people make so much a big deal out of "birtday Celebrations"
Every day is a birthday celebrations if you ask me. Why should I take a day off from working because it falls on my "birthday"?(Known a cuple of people who do that)
I'm convinced they are a cult. They control and manipulate their people. Even going as far as telling people to what Sunday service they are to attend. Then threaten their people with expulsion if they break their precious rules. They're quick to denounce other religions. I'm still trying to figure out how they can feel their religion is so great when they have more divorces than any other religion and let's not get into teenage pregnancies. I know one family with 5 kids and all five boys and girls had babies as teens. One of the boys was even selling drugs.
Maybe they're not serving up Kool-Aid but in my experiences with them I find them to be cowardly. They won't take a political stand, vote or serve in the military. Yet they gain all the benefits of those who put anything on the line.
But my main problem with them is how they control and manipulate their people. Your not even considered a good soldier if you don't bring in new people.
As for what they do and don't support in particular voting. Many people fought and died for that right. I for one would never give up than right based upon some the rules of their religion or anyone else.
I listened to the first 2 videos. Those folks were wronged but not by the JWs. Those folks were wronged by their mothers. The members of the JWs don't have a rule about calling 911. Members of the JWs are free to call the Police to report sexual abuse.
These folks are complaining that the JWs elders didn't call the police about the allegations of sexual abuse. Well neither did the mothers - neither did the victims.
The organization is not a law enforcement agency. Telling the organization is an unnecessary and meaningless step.
Call the police or child protective services. Don't call a religious man if you want a crime reported.
Religious folks are about forgiveness and redemption - not prosecution and incarceration.

All that you stated comes about when you have too many rules to live by. Confusion sets in you don't want to anger the elders.
When making common sense decisions are not your choice but decided by the rules of a religion.
A clearer thinker would've called for assistance immediately. The police or protective services should've been the first called.

Truth is truth. I have included a definition for the word cult. There is no reference to holding back information or not reporting occurrences or keeping secrets.
The JW organization has handled the sexual abuse charges like the Catholic Church. Are you also willing to refer to the Catholic church as a cult?
There are millions of Witnesses and hundreds of millions Catholics. How can either organization be labelled a cult with such a large membership and long history? Are 7th Day Adventists or Latter Day Saints or Rastafarians cults too?
Secrets don't transform organizations into cults. Cult isn't even a negative reference.
Cult is the root of culture and cultivate. Look it up.
I would assume more children are being sexual abused in those ratty store front churches headed by some lone wolf type preacher.
If those sexually abused children were members of Reverend Billy Bob New Life Baptist Church of God in Christ their mama still won't have contacted law enforcement. She would have gone to Reverend Billy Bob and this documentary would be about him.
Meanwhile, the mother would still not protect her children by contacting law enforcement or child protective service.
