Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy got into a shouting match with the owner of a pizza joint who was angered that the loudmouth mogul was giving his restaurant a negative review.
The 46-year-old Portnoy was in the middle of one of his customary pizza reviews that he offers to his legion of sports bro fans online when he was confronted by the owner of Dragon Pizza in Somerville, Mass.
In a videotaped segment that he posted for his “One Bite” series, Portnoy, who judges the food based on one bite, is seen walking out of the shop with a pie of eight slices.
Portnoy took a bite of a slice of pizza and declared: “This pizza is trash.” He gave the pizza a 6.4 out of 10 rating, declaring that the slice he ate was a “floppy mess.”
That prompted the owner of Dragon Pizza to accost Portnoy and tell him that he didn’t “appreciate what you do, coming in and judging a business in one bite.”
“F–k you,” Portnoy said, calling him an “a–hole.”

The unidentified owner then referred to the Barstrool founder as a “f—ing b—h.”
“Just go f–k yourself and the whole f–king platform you’re on,” the owner said before threatening to call the police.
Portnoy’s “One Bite” pizza reviews have attracted a cult following that numbers nearly 1 million subscribers on YouTube.

“Dave went to Dragon Pizza and discovered the worst pizza shop owner in the history of reviews, and he and Dave got into a shouting match on the street,” read the caption on the YouTube video.
Earlier this week, Portnoy announced layoffs at Barstool Sports, which he recently reacquired from Penn Entertainment for $1.
“I’ve been very clear. Anybody that’s paid attention, we are going to have layoffs and cuts, and they’ve started and it sucks,” Portnoy said on Barstool Radio.
“And people who know me from the beginning [know] I hate firing people. You can be incompetent, not work and I generally don’t fire because I hate it so much. It’s the worst thing to f–king do.”

“Having said that, we’re in a position, it’s a no-brainer. It’s not like I have that moral — ‘Well, you can’t do it because nobody will have jobs.’ We’ll all not have jobs. So we have to get back to a break-even thing. We’re losing a lot and it sucks.”
Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2003.
He sold a majority of Barstool to The Chernin Group in 2016.
Earlier this year, Penn Entertainment finalized its acquisition of Barstool for a total of $551 million.

Penn lost somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 million on Barstool, which the company had originally hoped would boost its sports betting business by tying into one of the most recognizable brands in sports media.
Following the sale, Penn Entertainment announced it was partnering with ESPN to rebrand its existing sportsbooks.

It must be an acquired taste.
A day after Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy got into a heated altercation with the owner of Dragon Pizza in Somerville, Massachusetts, the pizzeria was packed with seemingly satisfied customers.
One customer even disagreed with Portnoy’s review, giving his piece — a maple bacon slice — a much higher rating than Portnoy did.
“I’d give this one probably around a 9 [out of 10]… But it is a little floppy, I do have to agree there,” the customer told The Post while chewing. “Yeah, I saw [the altercation]. I thought it was better than he rated it, but that’s just my taste. The owner, [identified by the Boston Globe as Charlie Redd], seemed a little bit out of control, maybe he was having a bad day.
“It got caught on camera, I think that’s what it was.”

The 46-year-old Portnoy, who recently reacquired Barstool Sports from Penn Entertainment for $1, visited the pizza shop for one of his pizza reviews, which has been one of his trademarks since he rose to sports media prominence.
In a series now dubbed “One Bite,” Portnoy visits famous pizzerias and, well, takes one bite and subsequently records a review of the pizza right outside the restaurant, giving it a rating from 1-10.
Portnoy clearly did not enjoy his slice from Dragon Pizza and began ragging on it as “trash” and a “floppy mess,” giving it a 6.4 rating.

That’s when Redd walked out and confronted Portnoy.
“Enjoy your pizza as any customer, but I don’t appreciate what you do, coming in and judging a business in one bite,” Redd said.
After Portnoy responded that he helps small businesses, the owner shot back, “I don’t see it that way,” before going back into the pizzeria.

A few moments later, Redd re-emerged and told Portnoy to stop standing in front of his business.
“Let me be clear, f–k you,” Portnoy shot back repeatedly before calling the owner a “motherf–ker” and an “a–hole.”
Redd threatened to call the police, and when Portnoy asked what for, he replied, “for being a f–king bitch.”

Though Redd could be seen in the pizzeria on Friday, he appeared to have no interest in using the attention for newfound fame.
A paper plate with “we are not talking about it” written on it is taped to the window.
The customer who gave the 9 out of 10 rating said his decision to visit Dragon Pizza on Friday was in part due to Portnoy’s review.

Dragon Pizza now embracing their ‘unbelievable ugly’ fight with Dave Portnoy

MORE ON:DAVE PORTNOY

Dragon Pizza appears to be doing just fine after Dave Portnoy hit the small business in Somerville, Massachusetts, with a lowly 6.4 rating out of 10.
The Barstool Sports founder, who reviewed the pizza place on his “One Bite” series last week, got into a screaming match with the unnamed owner while filming the segment — and posted the video on Twitter, which has 16.3 million views.
Dragon Pizza shared in an Instagram post that it had to close its doors on Tuesday to prepare for the week after customers completely sold out the place.
“We are completely sold out and need a day to prepare for the rest of the week,” Dragon Pizza wrote. “Thank you to our amazing staff and supporters. Couldn’t do it without y’all.”
Another post featured an employee with a sign that read “sold out.”
“Another Day! SOLD OUT,” Dragon Pizza wrote in the caption. “Thank you so much keep supporting us!
“Sorry for those guests show up today and have to wait too long team did there best to make everyone happy!”

The business has also seen an influx of good reviews.
That came after Dragon Pizza said “trolls were attacking every aspect of us” in a separate post on Saturday.
“Thanks. To this team. To our community,” Dragon Pizza wrote. “To LOVE over HATE in this unbelievable ugly situation of trolls attacking every aspect of us. We will persevere…I swear it so.”
Dragon Pizza limited the comments on their Instagram posts.

Despite the negative review from Portnoy, Dragon Pizza’s owner appears to be embracing his war with the outspoken Barstool boss.
Dragon Pizza shared a photo of the owner holding a paper that said “The Gospel” and wrote “David vs. Goliath” in the caption.
Portnoy reviewed a plain slice of Dragon Pizza on the sidewalk in front of the business.

After complaining that he was overpowered by the taste of parmesan, Portnoy said the pizza was a “floppy mess.”
At one point, the owner came out during the review and told Portnoy he didn’t appreciate the mogul “coming in a judging a business with one bite.”
That’s when Portnoy declared: “This pizza is trash” and gave it a 6.4 out of 10 rating.

The two eventually got into a heated back-and-forth and exchanged plenty of “f–k you” insults.
The owner referred to the Barstool founder as a “f–king b—h.”
“Just go f–k yourself and the whole f–king platform you’re on,” the owner said before threatening to call the police.

This couldn't more clearly be a marketing ploy. Be better.

Pizza places don't "sell out" in advance and this isn't some premium sit-down restaurant.

lol... this dude is the bully. He yelled at Portnoy for standing on the sidewalk outside his shop and threatened to call the cops on him.

He told Portnoy, who has raised over $50 million for small businesses, he was bad for small businesses.

I saw the video myself and I find it odd that not a single news story has accurately portrayed the way things went down. The pizza shop owner absolutely started all of this and as the argument went on he dug himself deeper and deeper.

Floppy pizza is a sign of under cooking. It’s usually because the oven isn’t hot enough to cook the center of the pizza bottom and all the moisture from the cheese keeps the center of the crust “floppy”. The oven need to be jacked up another 25- 50 degrees. I’d have given it a Low score too. Italia...See more

Dave Portnoy couldn’t avoid taking a shot at the infamous Dragon Pizza during his One Bite Pizza Festival in Brooklyn on Saturday.
A Portnoy fan appeared to bring a custom-made shirt of his wild altercation with the Massachusetts pizza store owner, Charlie Redd.
The Barstool Sports founder appeared to be delighted to put it on.
“I’m gonna’ f–kin’ throw this on right now,” Portnoy said. “This is an all-time shirt. Look at this f–kin’ piece of s–t Dragon Pizza guy.”

Portnoy’s feud with Redd began when the 46-year-old visited the pizza shop in Somerville, Mass., for one of his famous pizza reviews in August.
He clearly didn’t enjoy the pie, giving it a 6.4 rating before the pizzeria owner came outside to confront him.
“Enjoy your pizza as any customer, but I don’t appreciate what you do, coming in and judging a business in one bite,” Redd said.

Redd returned to the store before reemerging a few moments later and telling Portnoy to stop standing outside his business.
“Let me be clear, f–k you,” Portnoy shot back, then calling the owner a “motherf–ker” and an “a–hole.”
