lol, it is still not a fair comparison. perhaps the world will still like obama, perhaps not, but any rational person will see that this comparison is not fair. a fair comparison would be to see what this image looks like at the G8 7 1/2 years from now. i wonder what the pics looked like from bush's first G8?

Good point. Furthermore, a US president should not be judged by whether foreigners like him or not. He should be judged on what he does for the US.

yesterday, I was telling my brother that the US has printed $10 trillion since the recession begun that is not supported by any goods. He (living in Africa) said that that was wrong because it will undermine the world economy, ie, countries like China will the value of their US assets reduce. I pointed out that China got to this point by manipulating its currency, and so now, perhaps, was the time for it to eat its own medicine.

I pointed out that in the long run, devaluing the US currency will reverse the flow of money. Others will import from the US, and the products of the others will be too expensive for the US to afford. I pointed it that this would have the effect of reviving manufacuturing in the USA and that it was high time the Chinese stopped using the US as an ATM machine.... Unfortunately, he fell asleep while I was running my mouth...

Umm... I think it really matters if these people like us. You have no idea what you're talking about... In the words of DJ Khalid "We Global Now!". We do business with these people. :smh:

I do know what I am talking about. I also happen to be 'one of the foreigners'. These countries benefit from the USA which has helped to stabilise the West and westernised Asia by giving near damn free access to their wares while they impose all sorts of restrictions on US exports. The Chinks (of all kinds) are a case in point. They have manipulated their currency to suck money out of the USA to the point where they think the US is a mule to pull their economy. If and when they US takes steps to right the relationship, the Chinks howl, about fairness, a word that does not exist in their trade conduct, of all things.

You have the Germans and French absolutely refusing to stimulate first the European and then the world econmy, even though this is something they know needs to be done. They abolutely denied Obama on this score yesterday. Yet, when the US Congress inserted a 'buy-America' provision in its own stimulus package, these same people howled that that was protectionism. The $787 billion US stimulus is driving the US deeper into debt ($500 billion of it was borrowed from the Chinks), and is likely to lead to inflation and higher interest rates down the road. However, the trade partners of the USA will enjoy as boon as it buys more, metals, paper etc, to faciliate the massive spending measures. China is also spending $500 billion, though does not need to borrow the money, and is mearely accelarating projects that were on the books. Again, everyone else will benefit from the demand created by the spending.

This bugger Sakorzy has little personal honour and his popularity is in low 30 in France today, ostensibly because the thug has revealed himself as driven by a serious Napoleonic complex. So shameless is he that after pointedly dissing Africa in his Presidential campainger, the bugger was in Zaire last week, French Industrialists in tow, to try and induce the country to allow French mining companies to rape its minerals. He had the nerve to say Zaire should share its minerals with Rwanda. The bugger.... any way..

You have a point but it's a minute one. We are partially in the clusterfuck that we are in right now because the former presidency made the U.S. look like a tyrant who didn't give a shit about anyone's suggestions on global crises and isolated us away from forming alliances and bonds that could have helped us and the current economy if bridges weren't burned.

I do agree with you that we should take care of home first, but that's not what Bush's administration was doing in the first place. They cared about self interest, and what I'm referring to is the wealth that corporate lobbyist gained from having the Iraqi region destabilized.

Also we have only two options with this current economic crisis:
1. Try to stimulate the banking industry or buy up toxic assets from the banking and mortgage companies so that they can stop being in a suspended state and start lending money again. The banking and credit industries are what got us in this mess in the first place.

or

2. Stop lending money to these corporations and let them die like diseased fish in a pond. However, just like the example, the waters get infected and no life will prevail until something comes along and cleans it up. This could take years to see an upside, probably on the behalf of a few decades. At least with what he's trying to implement, we might see some positive results within the next 4 yrs, but this is for the long run.

I do think that money should no have been given to the auto industry, but he's trying to keep American business alive. I would have put in on conditional terms, extending the money only if that meant that the greater part of production would take place again in the U.S.

My $.02 cents
