FoxSports reports that former Detroit Piston Coach Chuck Daly, age 78, was diagnosed with "pancreatic cancer". The 'Dapper' HOF'er coached the Pistons to multiple NBA Championships (1989 & 1990), after coming close in 1988. The floor battles between the Lakers and Celtics are legend. Piston president, Joe Dumars, was part of those championships.
Upon being informed, Dumars said, "...my thoughts and prayers go out to the Daly family. He holds aspecial place in our hearts.."
While the former coach was known for reintroducing the 'real' meaning of the word team--despite what the Celtics say about the Red Auerbach era---, he also carried the moniker tagging him as the "prince of pessimisim (also shared by former football coach, Lou Holtz). Reminded of the tag, Daly said, now I am the "prince of Optmism" . "I will beat the Big C".
NBA Championships....1989 & 1990 (barely missing '88).
Coach the "Dream Team" to 1992 Olympic 'GOLD'....and was voted "Coach of the Year".
HOF Induction..1994.
Best wishes for a complete success.
